Did you ever wonder what the other Cahills were doing during the Clue Hunt?
The branches have been fighting for many centuries. The Ekaterina, Lucians, Tomas, and Janus can’t get along to even defend themselves against the Madrigals. All of this is going to change because of four young Cahills. While Amy and Dan and the others are off around the world hunting for the 39 clues, these four Cahills are at their respective branch's HQ's, working to make peace between the Cahills. They’re different in many ways but they all share a common goal: To keep peace and harmony between the branches.

Hannah McKay’s POV
London, England
I was lying on my bed listening to music on my iPod when mum came into the room.
I took off my headphones and said, “What’s up mum?”
“Get dressed,” she told me. “We’re going to Grace’s funeral.”
“Grace Cahill?” I asked startled. I would never imagine her to die so soon. I mean she’s old but she’s very strong. So strong that all the branches spent their whole lives trying to discover her secrets. Grace Cahill was a secret woman.
“Yes dear,” she said. “Now let’s get going. Your father and I have some errands to run and then we’ll be going.”
“Okay,” I said and she left the room.
I dragged myself out of bed and started to get dressed.
There’s no point in going to Grace’s funeral. We’re distantly related. And her grandchildren Amy and Dan are my cousins a gazillion times removed. I don’t even know what branch they’re in. They’re obviously not Lucians.
Another reason why I don’t want to go is because everyone’s just going to see if they’ll inherit something. No one actually cares except those close to her including me.
I’ve met Grace a couple times during her family gatherings every year during Christmas. She’s very kind even to those mean to her. I admired how she never showed weakness and she’s always caring to all Cahills.
My parents are never nice to non-Lucians. Surprisingly, I never turned out like them and I’m glad. They’re ruthless and remind me of Isabel Kabra at times. That’s not a good thing.
For instance, they’re only going to the funeral is for her fortune.
I walked to the main floor of our mansion. My parents are famous Lucians. They’re very loyal to the Lucian Leader Isabel Kabra. Naturally my parents love to go everywhere in style. So it’s normal to use a jet to go to Attleboro, U.S.A.
We got on the jet and we were on our way to the U.S.A.
Cassidy Carson’s POV
Chicago, Illinois
“Almost there,” I told myself, “one more mile to go.”
Any regular person would get tired of running five miles early in the morning. But not me, I was born to do this. I’m a Tomas.
I passed the line on the track field and I was finally done.
“Fastest time yet, great job!” my dad said.
“Thanks,” I replied.
My brother, Lucas, walks up to me. He’s only a year younger than me but he’s taller than me.
“Big deal, I’ll be able to beat your time,” Lucas said.
“Good luck,” I told him as he started to run.
I grabbed a bottle of water and a granola bar and sat next to my mom who was sitting on the bench. I look over and she’s on her laptop searching for ticket prices.
“Are we going somewhere?” I asked.
“We might go to the Tigers Baseball game…” she said.
“Really? That’s awesome!” I exclaimed.
“I’m not making any promises,” she warned. “We might go if Igor doesn’t give us any missions to do.”
I groaned. Igor is starting to get annoying. We rarely have time for family vacations. He keeps on giving my parents missions to do. Just because he’s the Tomas Leader that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t value other people’s time. We all have a life! No one wants to spend their time doing his own dirty work.
That dude needs to learn that he can’t boss people around. Too bad I can’t do anything about it. I’m just a fourteen year old girl.

I shut my laptop with a sigh, wearily resting my head on the hard device. It was official: Grace Cahill was dead.
The higher-ups had just sent me word of my invitation to her funeral, along with a booked plane ticket to Attleboro. It seemed that, for once, I didn't have any sort of hidden agenda for this Cahill gathering other than the typical 'keep your eyes and ears open for any potential information'. That suited me just fine.
Grace had been...interesting, to say the least. I'd only met the woman a few times over the years at the Cahill get-togethers that she hosted (I always thought that those were just asking for trouble. I mean, all those Cahills in one place? Come on), and out of that handful only spoke to her one-on-one once or twice. She had always been kind to me, though, despite...everything. While I was sure that most people (bar Amy and Dan, the poor kids. Who did they have left?) would be going to her funeral out of satisfaction or greed, I was actually (believe it or not) saddened by Grace's death and glad to have the chance to pay my respects without having to worry about any secret missions or objectives.
I lifted my head and stood up, picking up my laptop as I did so. The plane would be leaving soon. Alistair would be on the same flight as me, apparently, which was actually all right. Compared to most agents, after all, the old man was quite likable - when he wasn't double-crossing you, that is.
Shaking my head, I left my lab. First, a quick visit to my room to get something suitable to wear. Then, next stop: Attleboro.
Freddy Brier's POV
I knew something was up the moment my mom knocked on the door of my 'Janus Room'.
Everyone in my family knew that the room was off-limits, especially when I was in there. I didn't exactly appreciate interruptions when my creative juices were flowing (something that my irritating older brother may or may not have learned the hard way). My parents, devoted Janus as they were, were content to leave me alone as long as I was upholding the branch legacy and turning out amazing artistic pieces from time to time. It gave them more time to work on their secret branch work.
So anyway, when she knocked and poked her head into my room, my interest was immediately piqued.
"What's up, Mom?" I asked, casually spinning around on the chair I was sitting on to face her and raising an eyebrow.
"Grace Cahill is dead," she said bluntly. "We're going to her funeral, branch orders. Your father, brother and I will be busy with several covert tasks while we are there, so keep out of the way and don't fratenize with the other branches more than absolutely necessary. We're leaving in an hour. Be ready." And then she was gone, leaving me staring after her with my mouth hanging open in shock.
Grace was dead?
I'd known that she had been sick for a while, but Grace had always seemed way too strong, confident, and just plain stubborn to be stopped by something as insignifcant as death. She had always been so cool whenever I went to the Cahill get-togethers she hosted, and I had always (secretly) admired her. And now she was gone...
I got up to go and make sure that the one suit I owned still fit, wincing as I realized that I would soon be surrounded by greedy, scheming, borderline or flat-out evil relatives while seeing Grace for the last time. Wasn't that just the icing on the cake?
With a sigh, I closed the door to my Janus Room. Well, Attleboro, here I come.
If you had the chance to change the past…would you take it?

Attleboro, U.S.A
After a long plane ride we finally made it to Attleboro. I felt very tired but I’m used to all this jet-lag. Mum and dad always take me around the world for Lucian business. I’ve practically been on every continent –except Antarctica. Too cold for my liking.
We got a ride and we were on the familiar rode towards Grace’s mansion. My parents were talking in low voices like they don’t want to be heard. All I heard was something about a contest.
That’s strange. I never heard of any Lucian contests. Usually Isabel Kabra would do contests for agents in training to see who would be the most reliable. The agents that are great get picked for agents very often.
But that happens once a year. Our next one is this December. So, why are my parents talking about this?
We arrived at Grace’s mansion and over 400 people from all over the world were here. Wow, I wondered how much people were actually here for Grace, and not her fortune.
I followed my parents outside to where all the guests were waiting for the funeral to start. I looked around to see if there’s anyone I know but all I could spot were Ian and Natalie Kabra talking to some other Lucians. Great.
Let’s just say that even though my parents are friends with theirs that doesn’t mean that we’re friends. Ian and Natalie are my frienemy.
“Hannah,” my mum said. “Go along and be with your friends. We’ll be here if you need us.”
“Okay,” I said. “What’s going on?”
“What do you mean?” she said completely confused.
“There’s so much people here for Grace’s funeral,” I explained. “Grace Cahill, the one that mostly everyone disliked. They’re just here for her mone-”
“Not another word,” mum said sternly. “Of course that’s not true. Grace was a wonderful lady and friends with everyone. We came here to pay her respect. There’s no other motive now run along.”
“Fine,” I said. I knew she was lying but I don’t want to get on her bad side. She can be very scary.
I walked in the opposite direction of where Ian and Natalie are hoping that they wouldn’t spot me. I’m not in the mood to meet with those two.
I must of not been watching were I was going because I accidently bumped into this girl.
“Sorry,” I told her.
“That’s okay,” said the girl. She had short curly light brown hair and blue eyes. I have never seen her before.
“What’s your name?” I asked. “I’m Hannah McKay, Lucian.”
Her eyes widened. I shouldn’t have said that I was a Lucian. This is the reaction I get from other Cahills. They think that all Lucians are back stabbers.
“Cassidy Carson, Tomas,” she told me. “I got to go look for my brother.” And she left.
This is going to be a long day.
Cassidy Carson’s POV
Oh my gosh, a Lucian that’s actually nice?
I knew it was sort of a strange thing to do. Get away from a Lucian. I’m a Tomas after all, I shouldn’t be afraid of anything. Hannah looked like a nice girl. But I was worried that she’ll lie and betray me. Lucians are sort of known for that.
After my run in with Hannah, I walked around looking for my friend Nancy. She’s a Tomas like me, so we have loads to talk about. Like sports.
I suddenly got a text. I checked my phone and it was from Nancy. Unfortunately, her family couldn’t make it today. So I’m stuck here with a bunch of my evil relatives.
At the far end of the field I see a man in professional attire walking towards the crowd. I look around and see that everyone was moving towards the seat. The funeral was about to start.
I look for my family and we all stayed together. My brother looked annoyed because we had to leave during his turn. He wanted to beat my score so badly that he’s not happy to be here at all. My parents are both in a heated discussion arguing over whether we’ll be in the will or not.
Seriously? Grace didn’t even know us well so why would we? I never really liked visiting her mansion on those holidays because of my relatives. Usually me and my brother just hang out with our friends or play something in their lawn.
The minister said something about Grace and they lowered the coffin into the ground. Everyone tossed in a shovel of dirt. I looked around and I saw the girl Hannah. Her eyes were sort of red so I could tell that she was crying. She’s definitely the most different Lucian I’ve ever met.
The man I saw earlier walked on to the podium and said, “Thank you all for coming. I am William McIntyre, Madame Cahill’s lawyer and executor. If you look inside your programs, some of you will find a gold invitation card.”
This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Whether or not we’re part of Grace’s will. Everyone including me looked through their programs.
There, I found it. A card with a gold leaf program. My parents and brother have it too.
“I assure you,” Mr. McIntyre said, “the invitations weren’t done randomly. I apologize to those of you who were excluded. Grace Cahill meant you no disrespect. Of all the members of the Cahill clan, only a few were chosen as the most likely.”
A lot of arguing broke out among the people. A boy suddenly yelled out, “Most likely to what?” It was Grace’s grandchild, Dan.
“To be the beneficiaries of Grace Cahill’s will. Now, if you please, those with invitations will gather in the Great Hall.”
Everyone ran towards the Great Hall. I saw Hannah and her parents with an invitation. Even Amy and Dan has it, but of course, they were her favourite.
I followed my parents towards the Great Hall.

Alistair was strangely quiet during the trip to Attleboro. He had greeted me warmly enough, but after our pleasantries were exchanged he had sat down and stared out the window without another word. That suited me just fine, but it was out of character for him. I knew that he had been fairly close to Grace, though, so it made sense.
The plane ride wasn't unbearably long, thankfully, and I spent my time mentally going over plans for one of my newest projects and fiddling with some of the devices I'd managed to bring along in my purse. Before I knew it, we were landing, collecting our things, and in a car enroute to Grace's mansion. Alistair still remained silent.
We said our goodbyes as the car pulled up to the grand old house (we wouldn't be returning together), and then I slipped into the crowd. I made my way to my seat, making no effort to talk to anyone, and sat down. I looked through the mass of people idly, catching sight of a few people I knew; Ian and Natalie Kabra, Amy and Dan Cahill, the Holts, Irina Spasky and Jonah Wizard, to name a few. Most people seemed to know each other (judging by the many less-than civil conversations I could hear). I caught sight of two girls, looking around my age, talking calmly. That lasted for all of two seconds before one of the girls, the one with the light brown hair, left rather quickly. It wasn't exactly surprising.
I was shaken out of my thoughts the seat beside me was suddenly less empty than it had been moments before. I turned to see a boy with short dark hair and green eyes (also looking about my age) staring back at me with a friendly smile, which looked out of place at Grace Cahill's funeral.
"Hi," he extended a hand. "I'm Freddy."
Freddy Brier's POV
My parents and brother talked animatedly the whole trip to Attleboro, but I was happy to sit in the back and just doodle on my sketchpad as we made our way to Grace Cahill's magnificent home. Three pages (and three detailed, award-winning drawings) later, we had arrived. My father laid a hand on my shoulder as we exited the vehicle and pulled me aside.
"Remember, we are on a mission," he told me sternly. "You need to keep your head down, got it?"
"Yes, Dad," I replied, barely refraining from rolling my eyes. "I'm just going to go find my seat. I'll see you later, okay?" I was gone before he could say another word.
I strolled thorugh the crowd towards my seat, smiling easily whenever I happened to catch someone's eye. My parents' strict attitude didn't bother me at all - that was just how they were. And though I was sad about Grace's death, I knew she hadn't been the type that would want people crying over her at her funeral. Grace had been cool like that. So I kept my grin firmly in place as I finally found my seat, sat down, and turned towards the girl who was sitting next to me, sticking out my hand.
"Hi," I said, "I'm Freddy." The girl stared at me for a second, as though she couldn't believe that I was honestly acting like this (and really, who could blame her?), but after a moment she offered me a nod back. There was a slight smile on her face as she shook my hand and replied, "Jo."
I smiled back, my grin a little brighter. I knew that I was being perhaps a bit too friendly with someone who was almost certainly in another branch and likely to betray me or something, but there was a look in Jo's eyes that had me blurting out my next question before I even thought about it. "So, did you know Grace well?" I asked. Jo's smile faded, and I knew (I was a Janus - I knew acting when I saw it) from the genuine sadness on her face that I hadn't made a huge mistake in talking to her.
"Not well, no," she shook her head, "but I do miss her." My smile turned a little sad as I nodded. "Me too."
We didn't have a chance to talk after that, because my family sat down beside me and the service soon began. I was just a step behind Jo when it came to our turn to throw a shovel of dirt onto Grace's coffin, but her head was bowed as she turned and hurried back to her seat. I whispered a quiet goodbye to Grace before I followed. When it came time to the will reading, I was surprised to find that my family had been invited, as had Jo. We were separated as the lucky chosen ones streamed towards the mansion, but I caught sight of her making her way inside. Also making their way inside were many familiar faces such as the Kabras, the Holts, the Wizards, Irina Spasky, and the Starlings.
"Oh, this is going to be fun."

The Great Hall was huge, but not as huge as ours back home.
There were many armor and swords displayed on the wall around the Great Hall. A hundreds of seats filled the room and there was a huge window which reminded me of the ones in American films. In the superhero movies they usually have the hero crash through an enormous window.
Everyone filled the rows of seats and Grace’s lawyer, Mr. McIntyre, stood at a table in the front of the room. There was a large projector screen right behind him.
I saw the usual people, the Kabras, Holts, Starlings, Cahills, and other family members. There were about forty people in all for the will reading. A few rows behind me and my family are Cassidy and her family.
It’s a shame that every time we are gathered at Grace’s mansion we never seem to get along with our relatives. It sort of hurt me that Cassidy won’t talk to me because I’m a Lucian. There are at times when I wished that there were no such things as branches. Everyone is different. We shouldn’t be judged just because of our branch.
Mr. McIntyre raised his hand everyone quieted down. He took out a document from a brown leather folder and read: “’I, Grace Cahill, being a sound of mind and body, do hereby divide my entire estate among those who accept the challenge and those who don’t.’”
So that’s what my parents were talking about! Now everything makes sense. We were all chosen for a contest.
“Whoa,” Eisenhower Holt interrupted. Can’t he just wait for McIntyre to finish? “What challenge? What’s she mean?”
“I’m getting to that, sir.” Mr. McIntyre continued: “’You have been chosen as the most likely to succeed in the greatest, most perilous undertaking of all time –a quest of vital importance to the Cahill family and the world at large.’”
Everyone started talking at once. I could tell Mr. McIntyre is getting tired of everyone asking questions and demanding answers. This is what usually happens when different types of Cahills are in one room. Nothing ever gets accomplished.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please,” Mr. McIntyre said. “If you will direct your attention to the screen, perhaps Madame Cahill can explain things better than I.”
The projector turned on and Grace Cahill’s image appeared on the screen.

I was shocked to see her on the screen. It’s like she knew this day was going to come and she was prepared for this moment.
When I heard McIntyre say something about a competition it sounded cool. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to have all branches in one competition, a blood bath may occur.
“Fellow Cahills,” Grace said, “if you are watching this, it means I am dead, and I have decided to use my alternate will. No doubt you are arguing amongst yourselves and giving poor Mr. McIntyre a hard time about this contest I have issued. You always were a stubborn bunch. For once, close your mouths and listen.”
Grace definitely got that right, I thought. Everyone was interrupting McIntyre and is refusing to listen. Cahills are stubborn, especially with each other.
“I assure you,” she continued, “this contest is no trick. It is deadly business. Most of you know you belong to the Cahill family, but many of you may not realize just how important our family is. I tell you that the Cahills have had a greater impact on human civilization than any other family in history. My relatives, you stand on the brink of our greatest challenge. Each of you has the potential to succeed. Some of you may decide to form a team with other people in this room to pursue this challenge. Some of you may prefer to take up the challenge alone. Most of you, I’m afraid, will decline the challenge and run away with your tails between your legs. Only one team will succeed, and each of you must sacrifice your share of the inheritance.”
She picks up a manila envelope sealed with a red wax and said, “If you accept, you shall be given the first of the thirty-nine clues These clues will lead you to a secret, which, should you find it, will make you the most powerful, influential human beings on the planet. You will realize the destiny of the Cahill family. I now beg of you all to listen to Mr. McIntyre. Allow him to explain the rules. Think long and hard before you make your choice. ”
The 39 clues. This is what every Cahill talks about. This is what broke our family apart for centuries. Every Cahill’s goal in life is to find all 39 clues in order to become the powerful person in the world. I don’t know what the prize is but all I know is it can cause a lot of problems if falls into the wrong hands.
Grace final words were, “I’m counting on you all. Good luck, and good bye.” And the screen turned black.
Once again, everyone was complaining. I don’t get what’s the big deal. It’s sort of obvious its either we get the clue of Grace’s fortune. I defiantly know what I’m going to choose.
McIntyre explained the rules and he said, “One million dollar or the clue. You have five minutes to decide.”

I just sat there, stunned, as everyone burst into chatter around me. What was Grace playing at? Most of the people in this room already knew all about the clue hunt. Offering up a million dollars or a clue... Glancing around, it wasn't hard to see what people were going to decide. Most of the room was pure greed, but there were a few who were looking at the envelope McIntyre had held up with interest.
"And what will you be choosing, my dear girl?" Alistair looked over at me. I recognized the glint in his eye all too well, and knew that he would be taking the clue. Any chance to show his uncle, after all.
"You'll find out," I replied curtly, standing up and walking away. Rude though it may have been, I didn't really want to talk to him. He didn't seem to care as he leaned back and started fiddling with the handle of his cane. I navigated through the crowd of people and finally found a quiet corner where I could lean against the wall and think.
A clue or a million dollars? It was a lot of money that certainly would be welcomed. What would I do with a clue, anyway? There was a chance that it was one of the clues that my branch had already found, but even if it wasn't, I didn't want to be one of those agents who went chasing obscure leads all over the world, often on nothing but rumours that tended to turn out to be false. And I knew that that was pretty much the only place taking the clue would get me.
I was startled out of my thoughts for the second time that day as, once again, I suddenly found the space beside me filled by a certain dark-haired boy.
Freddy Brier's POV
My parents and brother immediately started jabbering on about how a million dollars each would be so helpful for all their plans and how the clue would be found by another Janus anyway (so they really didn't need to sacrifice their money for it). I just nodded as my mom told me that I would be taking the money too, and excused myself as quick as I could. None of them really noticed as I slipped off into the crowd.
I managed to get through the throng of people and immediately spotted a familiar figure leaning against a wall in the corner. With a grin, I walked over.
"Hey," I said, leaning on the wall beside Jo. She blinked turning to me quizzically. "Oh, hi Freddy," she replied, looking away.
I just continued to smile, undeterred. "So, my parents are making me take the money. Not that I'm complaining; the whole clue thing isn't exactly my style. What about you?"
She glanced at me, raising an eyebrow. "'Not your style,' huh?" Jo shook her head. "Family legacy?"
I shrugged. "I think we both know the answer to that. I'm a Janus, you?" I wasn't exactly sure why I had said that. In a family with as much rivalry as the Cahills, being in different branches was pretty much the worst way to start a friendship. I inwardly cringed, wondering how she'd respond.
"Ekat," was all she said, much to my surprise. "And I think I'll have to agree with you, about both the 'not my style' bit and the money."
My eyebrows rose. "You're not into the whole 39 clues thing either?" I blurted out. Jo opened her mouth to reply, but at that moment Mr. McIntyre called out that our five minutes were up. Everyone made their way back to their seats, and then the choosing began.

One million dollars or a single clue? That should be easy, right?
I was having an extremely hard time deciding. Any normal person would pick the one million dollars. But a Cahill would want a single clue. A clue to the secrets of the 39 clues.
I could pick either one. One million dollars won’t affect me because I’m super rich. My parents are almost as rich as the Kabras. So it doesn’t matter what I do?
“Mum, dad,” I said. “What are you going to choose?”
“One million dollars dear,” mum answered. “I don’t want you to be part of Grace’s game. It’s useless. You can search for the 39 clues on your own time.”
“Alright,” I said.
McIntyre called us all back and everyone said their decisions. Everyone chose the hundred dollars except for the Kabras (of course), the Holts, the Starlings, Alistair Oh, Irina Spasky (I never got along with her) and the Cahills.
We took our million dollars and left the people who chose the clue. I was glad that I wouldn’t be part of the competition, especially with those people. I know for sure that the Kabras will play dirty.
Cassidy Carson’s POV
My family and I decided that we should just take the money.
My parents want me and my brother to be future Olympic athletes so a million dollars would really help us train. They don’t care about the whole 39 clues hunt thing, which was great because I’d never do it. After seeing Ivan sending my parents around to look for the clues I don’t want to be part of that mess. Sometimes my parents come back home with serious injuries. Searching for the 39 clues isn’t a walk in the park.
The people who I expected to take the clue did. The Holts took the clue because I know that Eisenhower is trying to gain a better reputation. He didn’t have a good history. I was surprised that the Cahills did it but then again, they were Grace’s favourite so they may know some secrets. But what was more surprising was that Hannah the Lucian took the million dollars.
Everyone who took the money were outside were the ceremony was and talking to each other. I spotted Hannah, who was using her phone, and I walked up to her.
“Hi,” I said.
“Hey,” she said not looking up.
“I’m sorry about earlier it’s just that-”
“Don’t worry about it,” she interrupted. “I’m used to it.”
“I thought you would be like the Kabras,” I admitted. “I never got along with those two.”
“The Kabras are my enemies,” she told me. “I never got along with them either. I don’t think anyone does. The good thing is that I won’t see them until Grace’s competition is over.”
“Why didn’t you choose the clue?” I asked.
“I’m not really interested in the clues. It’s the whole reason for why other branches can’t get along. You?” she replied.
“Same here. I want to do something useful with the money. I don’t think I’d ever want to search for the clues.”

Jo Riley's POV
I watched as several people (as predicted) chose the million dollars and left the room, including Freddy and his family. It was unsurprising when the Kabras stood up and took the clue, followed by several other teams. I waited for a pause, and when one finally came I stood as well.
"I'll take the million," I said calmly. No one really paid me much attention, other than McIntyre, who nodded at me once before his attention shifted to the next person. I hesitated before I left, glancing over at Amy and Dan, who looked conflicted. Poor kids didn't have any idea what was going on, but they'd probably end up taking the challenge anyway. It was all they had left, after all. I silently wished them luck before exiting the hall.
Walking outside, I was surprised to see that everyone who had taken the money was still there. I stopped at the bottom of the steps, debating whether to hang around a little longer or just leave. Yet again, a now familiar face appeared and made my choice for me.
"Well, a million dollars isn't too shabby, is it?" Freddy had his hands in his pocket, grinning. I just raised an eyebrow at him.
His face turned a little more serious as he lowered his voice. "You never answered my question," he said. I looked at him carefully, weighing my options. Before I really made a decision, I found myself saying, "Not really, no. I have the training, of course, but I'm just so sick of this crazy hunt. You're a Janus, I'm an Ekat, we shouldn't even be having this conversation according to the rest of our 'family.' But...here we are."
Freddy Brier's POV
I nodded, my mind racing a mile a minute. Everything Jo was saying was exactly what I'd been thinking for so long. "Here we are," I agreed. "Would you believe me if I said that I honestly had no motives behind wanting to be your friend, besides forgetting all of this nonsense?"
Jo looked at me closely, but I wasn't nervous. It was the truth. "You know," she said finally, "Call me crazy, but I think I would." I grinned widely as she stuck out her hand, bringing my own up to shake hers. It felt much more official than the handshake we had shared earlier.
We had just dropped our hands back to our sides when Jo's gaze suddenly fixed on something over my shoulder. I turned slightly to see two girls not far away, looking about our age. It wasn't hard for me to see what had caught Jo's attention; both of the girls looked somewhat...out of place, much like Jo and myself. They were close enough that we could easily hear what they were saying, despite the chatter around us.
"I'm sorry about earlier it's just that-" the one with light brown hair was saying.
"Don't worry about it," the other interrupted. "I'm used to it."
"I thought you would be like the Kabras," the first admitted. "I never got along with those two." I caught Jo's eye and mouthed 'Lucian.' She nodded slightly.
"The Kabras are my enemies," the Lucian replied. "I never got along with them either. I don't think anyone does. The good thing is that I won't see them until Grace's competition is over."
"Why didn't you choose the clue?" the other girl asked.
"I'm not really interested in the clues. It's the whole reason for why other branches can't get along. You?" That caught my attention. I exchanged a glance with Jo.
"Same here. I want to do something useful with the money. I don't think I'd ever want to search for the clues."
Jo and I looked at each other, reaching a silent decision almost instantly. We walked over to where the two girls were standing, tapping them both on the shoulder as we came up. They didn't jump, but they looked surprised as they turned to the two of us. I smiled.
"Hello," I said. "Sorry to interrupt, but we couldn't help but overhear your conversation from over there. I'm Freddy Brier, Janus. This is Jo Riley, Ekat." Again with the whole blurting out branches thing, I mentally hit myself. But there was something different about these two, something that I had only ever sensed in Jo.
"Hannah McKay, Lucian," said the second girl after a moment's pause. "And Cassidy Carson, Tomas," said the other. Jo looked from me to Hannah to Cassidy, seemingly coming to a decision.
"How would you all like to change the world?"
If you had the chance to change the past…would you take it?

One question though: Is Cassidy pale because of the weather in Chicago? I was wondering why she was pale if she spent all that time running (like outside in the sun), so could you clear that up.It would be ironic if she burned instead of tanned though ;)
I can't wait to see how they change the world! Please continue

Hannah McKay’s POV
"How would you all like to change the world?" the girl, Jo, said.
I was surprised. Not because of the question she asked. I was surprised because an Ekat and a Janus were talking to me and Cassidy. Branch rivalries separated us and we rarely talked to the other branch.
Jo and Freddy seemed friendly. They didn’t sound like they were joking. It was hard to explain but I felt that I could trust them. I’d never trust anyone until I know them really well because I learned that your own family members can betray you.
“What do you mean by changing the world?” Cassidy asked. I could tell from her voice that she didn’t exactly trust them.
“Don’t worry; we’re not spies or anything. We won’t trick you guys,” Freddy reassured us. “I overheard your conversation about the branches and I thought that we should do something to fix it. It’s sad that the Cahills are the most powerful family but they can’t seem to get along. I can tell that you guys feel the same way.”
“You’re right about that,” I said. “Hardly anyone gets along these days. So what are you suggesting?”
“Why don’t we meet up at each other’s places and come up with a plan?” Jo suggested. “I don’t think it’s wise for us to discuss our ideas now.”
“Ok, I guess we can try this out,” I said. “But what can we possibly do? We don’t have any power and if our parents find out we can get into a lot of trouble.”
“We’ll come up with ideas later,” Freddy replied. “I think we can make a difference because each of us is from a different branch. We’re all unique and we have our own talents. How about we all meet at my place this Monday? I’ll send you guys the directions through email.”
“Ok,” we all said in unison.
We exchanged emails and we went to our families. My parents were finished talking with their friends when I came.
“Hi dear,” mum said. “Ready to go?”
“Yes mother,” I replied. We walked towards our ride and soon we were on our private jet back to London.
“Mum, dad?” I asked.
They both looked up from their tablets.
“I need to borrow the private jet on Monday,” I said.
“Why?” dad asked.
“I’m going to go shopping,” I said. It wasn’t completely a lie. I planned on going shopping after the meeting with Freddy, Jo, and Cassidy.
“Alright,” mum said. “But why on earth would you shop in America? Everything you need can be found back home.” I could tell she didn’t believe me.
“Some friends told me that there’s a huge sale on Monday,” I replied.
“Since when did you care about how many things costs?” she questioned.
I wanted to slap myself. It’s hard to trick my mother. She’s impossible to trick.
“I decided that I shouldn’t waste money on clothes,” I said at last.
Mum didn’t reply after that. I could tell she wasn’t convinced.
Step 1 is complete. I’ve got a ride. All I have to do is make sure my parents never find out.
