One. Flags Just Aren't That Important
Aurelia
As I reached the top of the climbing wall, I thought about the truth.
The truth was a dangerous thing, I had been told as a young child. People should be very careful when dealing with such matters, and so should you. Even demigods must know that the truth may be withheld for important reasons.
My teacher, Chiron, had told me that long ago, the first summer I'd stayed at Camp Half-Blood. I'd arrived here younger than most, only eight years old, but the camp had been willing enough to let me stay.
That had been seven years ago. I was older now, more experienced. I'd seen and done things that most normal kids wouldn't even think of in their most insane nightmares. I'd seen a titan lord reborn, then turned to ashes. I'd seen the city of New York dissolved into the grounds for an epic battle that people would write about in fantasy books. I'd seen hundreds after hundreds after hundreds of monsters from the depths of the Underworld attack and be destroyed. I'd seen some things I would refuse to recollect, even years and years from then.
But the one thing I'd never seen yet was the truth.
A sad thing, yes, but true. The truth in the world of monsters and half-bloods and gods was a rare occurence, and was never known about by most. In this world, the truth was told in the shadowy forest corners, or darkened alleyways, or silent and empty areas of camp or Olympus. Never in front of more than one or two people, and never public.
"You done up there, Aurelia?! Or are you enjoying the view!?" shouted my instructor, which was a nineteen-year-old boy named Aiden. He was a son of Apollo, and an expert at the climbing wall. That may not sound very impressive, but our climbing wall was two massive slabs of real stone that shook, sprayed lava and dropped boulders.
"I dunno, Aiden! Depends: which involves less of you?" I replied, grinning down at him. He grinend back, and I nimbly slipped down the rough limestone walls.
Aiden shook his head, messy brown curls falling into his eyes, and looking oddly thin in his orange camp tee shirt and jeans.
"So, you ready for capture the flag tonight?" he asked, brown eyes sparkling with humor.
"No idea," I answered truthfully as I brushed dirt off my leggings. "I don't even know which team my cabin has an alliance with."
"Well, I've heard you might be allied with Apollo," he said casually, raising his eyebrows in obvious significance. I smiled broadly at that; I knew the Apollo campers more than my own cabin.
"Well, maybe tonight will be Hermes cabin's time to win the flag," I suggested, and Aiden shrugged nonchalantly.
"Dunno, but, Aurelia?"
I turned to face him, and he pointed over to the weapon's shed. "Yeah?"
"Someone told me to tell you that someone's waiting for you at the weapon's shed. Don't know who it is, except that they're a demigod."
I nodded my thanks, and hurried down the hill towards the wooden building where we kept all our weapon supply.
Leaning against the wall, waiting for me, was a skinny kid in a dark avaitor's jacket and black jeans, messy black hair and curious dark eyes.
"Aurelia," I said, glancing over at him curiously. "The Grim Reaper, I presume?"
He narrowed his eyes at that comment, and I noticed that they were a nice shade of dark brown. His tee shirt was black and pictured a few dancing skeletons.
He twisted his silver skull ring nervously, and replied quickly, "Maybe it would've been better if I were the Grim Reaper."

The kid.
He seemed normal enough, besides being dressed like Charon in all black. A demigod, for sure; Aiden had been absolutely right about that. But the one thing he'd failed to mention: this demigod was majorly powerful. I could sense his aura from ten yards away. He was not the sort of demigod I wanted to be fighting, and defientely not the sort of demigod I wanted to walk with in a monster-infested darkened forest.
In retrospect, following him probably wasn't the best plan.
He tilted his head to the side quizzically, as if studying me. I found that slightly annoying, and tried to get an idea of who he was. I'd never seen him around here before.
That was when a memory stirred, and I realised I had seen him before. A three years ago, almost four, when he'd first come to camp. Percy and Thalia had brought him, and crashed Apollo's chariot into the canoe lake. I'd almost been a char-broiled demigod at that point, because if I hadn't rolled out of my canoe, they would've landed directly on top of me.
He was looking at me sideways now, like he was remembering that, too. I'd seen him in the Hermes cabin, and after Thalia and those two Hunter girls - Zoe and Bianca - had left, he'd seemed really nervous and jumpy. It only took a few days to find out that Bianca was his sister. She never came back, and one morning he just disappeared.
I didn't even remember his name.
"Nico di Angelo," he said quietly, and I shot him a look of surprise. This was the Nico di Angelo - the son of Hades, ghost king, the one who'd pretty much saved Olympus when he brought the army of ghosts into the Battle of Manhattan (sp?). No way was this the same kid.
"Aurelia," I repeated, and he raised his eyebrows at something. I scowled.
"What?"
"Oh, nothing," he replied carefully, as if 'nothing' were the most strange thing in the world. All in all, I wasn't liking where this conversation was going; that is, if there was ever going to be a conversation.
"You're Aurelia, form the Hermes cabin?" he questioned, and I nodded once. Why did that matter?
"Right, perhaps this isn't the best time for me to be talking to you of all people, but ..." he went suddenly pale, and I saw a flash of light from somewhere above me.
I glanced upwards in time to see a lightning bolt, bright and crackling with electricity, frozen in time, suspended directly over my head.
The symbol of Zeus, king of the gods, over me. What was happening?
"Aurelia Larkspur, daughter of Zeus," Nico whispered, his voice faint. "This is one claiming no one has to know about."

"You're freaking kidding me," I muttered, suddenly angry with my situation. My father was Zeus, god of the skies, King of the Gods, Immortal Lord of Olympus. How was that even possible?
"Aurelia?" Nico whispered, and I glanced up to see his face was brimming with questions. I shot him a look that said quite clearly said shut up, now.
And he did.
Nico walked over hesitantly, as if afriad I was about to explode. Oh, great. Now yet another person is either scared of me or hates my guts. I just love my life.
"You alright?" he asked cautiously, and I had to bite back a string of insults. I wasn't about to be reassuring some guy I didn't even know when I was the one who shouldn't exist. Not going to happen in a million years.
"What do you think?" I snapped, my tone a little more depressed than I'd hoped. I held back a scream, and Nico came over and sat down beside me on the log.
He really was cute, I had to admit. His black hair was messy and ruffled but in a sort of endearing way, and his eyes were a deep shade of brown. He smiled half-heartedly at me, as if maybe that would work. Instead of smiling back, I scowled in pure frustration, not trusing myself to speak, for fear of angry tears.
"I'm guessing no," he replied nonchalantly. "But it probably isn't that bad, being the daughter of Zeus. I mean, look at Thalia."
My scowl deepened. "You mean, after she was hunted down, turned into a tree, had her spirit purged from the tree, went on the run again, and almost died countless times? Yeah, sounds awesome."
Nico let out a short, bitter laugh, as if he understood what I was talking about.
"Aurelia, I'm a son of Hades. I know how annoying it is to be a child of the Big Three. Believe me, people make it seem much harder than it really is."
"You're just saying that so I won't try to run off now," I said, and Nico grinned, a mischevious light coming into his eyes.
"Maybe," he amended. "But it's true that it's survivable. As long as no one at camp knows, you'll be fine."
"Well, how am I supposed to keep this from them?" I exclaimed, gesturing to where the lightning bolt had appeared.
"Not that difficult, seeing as it was just us two that saw it. Besides, I'm good at keeping secrets." He winked, and I got the idea that I didn't want to know what he meant by that.
"If anyoen finds out -"
"They won't."
"And how do you know that?" I demanded, glaring at him, silently daring him to contradict me.
"Because I'm the son of Hades, the Ghost King," he said in a teasing voice. "I know all and see all."
I couldn't help myself; I laughed.
"Yeah, right," I murmured, and I had to admit, he was pretty funny when he wasn't acting all serious and depressing.

Nico had told me he was staying at camp for the week, staying in the Hades cabin.
Thank Gods for that, I thought as he waked over to the small black cabin. The green fire torches burned in their brackets. It would be so awkward in the Hermes cabin if he stayed there.
Nico seemed to have an odd effect on the other campers. Some people found him cool for saving our butts in the recent titan war, like the Ares campers and some other cabins. I myself had to say a silent thank you for that. But some people put lots of distance between themselves and Nico, like he had some contagious disease.
"I'm son of the death god, Aurelia. People are going to find that weird." He'd told me.
Right after dinner, Chiron stamped his hoof against the stones and all hundred or so campers fell silent.
"I suppose I should say hello to all you annoying little brats," Mr. D announced lazily, his curly black hair falling into his eyes. "But I don't feel like it today, so don't get your little hopes up. Chiron says we have yet another round of your primitive game, and Ares and Apollo currenty hold the banners. Now, I really couldn't care less, but Chiron told me that you will battle each other for the flags tonight, no killing or maiming, etc, etc. You know what it is every time. Now, run along and play your stupid little games. Go. Now."
No one was in the mood to reckon with Dionysus, so we all raced forward to reach the best armour first.
I hoped this time I wouldn't be a target.
Naturally, Elpis didn't feel like being very helpful.

In other words: I was screwed.
They advanced, and Clarisse drew Lamer - sorry, Maimer - and came rushing to meet me. My dagger hilt stopped her own weapon in a dead halt. She glared daggers at me, just as my blade sliced upwards and slashed across her bronze breast plate.
"You little witch!" she screamed, and glanced down at the gaping cut in the celetial bronze.
"You're gonna pay for that!" one of her friends yelled, and charged me.
My dagger came down in a deadly arc that flashed across the Ares camper's own sword hilt, striking off some of the bronze studs and making a good-sized cut on their hand. They drew away, spweing profanity and some very creative curses.
"Bring it on, princess," hissed the fourth camper, who was at least three feet taller than me, stocky and armed with a wide array of weapons.
"Oh look," I muttered, exasperated. "I've made a friend."
He grinned wickedly and slcied down with his boradsword. The blade probably would've taken of my head, but I wasn't there anymore. I was halfway up the tree trunk, still scrambling for another hand-hold.
"Come on, guys!" Clarisse exclaimed to her cabinmates. "the little coward's getting away!"
And with that, they climbed their way towards my retreating figure, darting through the prickly pine branches surrounding me.
The only problem with climbing up a massive pine tree with five heavily armed and angry kids chasing you: If you realize it's a bad plan when you're only five feet from the top, there's not much you can do about it.
I reached the top few braches, which were beginning to bend slightly under my weight. Wincing from the branch jutting out into my stomach, I glanced down to see the Ares campers only a few feet behind me. The tall kid brnadished his broadsword, while Clarisse swiped at my legs with her spear. Just great.
I looked around me, searching for something, anything. I spotted a tree a few feet away I might've been able to jump to - but if I left, they would take the flag. I had to stay and deal with them.
That left ony one option: call on the power of Zeus.
Something discreet, so they wouldn't be able to be certain if it was a child of Zeus thing. That eant no lightning, no wind, no air whatsoever, and no anything to do with Zeus. That's just great ...
Maybe if I tried to ask for a favour from Hera ... or maybe Athena ... or possibly Poseidon. I was friendly with almost everyone at camp, even that Percy Jackson guy. He was pretty nice, any way, so it wasn't that difficult. Although Drew Tanaka from Aphrodite ... that was another story altogether.
I attempted asking Athena for help, and when the massive barn owl came swooping in, I knew I'd found one favour I had to return.

1 - Does anyone have any guesses on two thing: what happens next, and who the other two main character's godly parents are. It's really unlikely, and I just love to use the starngest things in my stories. So, third child of Zeus, daughter of Diana, child of two gods, that sort of thing. Does anyone have any ideas?
2 - Can anyone guess my real name? Hint: six letters long, and not very common. No one ever says it right, and the first two letters are C and O.
3 - Lastly, I actually have two other stories, and the plotlines all sort of tie together. That sort of thing. Just go into my posts and look for Plans Aren't Always Complicated From The Start - C ... and ... Life Is The Worst Game To Lose - C. Hope you guys like them!

Aurelia
As the massive owl swooped down and snapped at Clarisse, she and her friends screamed some curses at me that were more creative than even Apollo himself could make up. The creature's wings batted the air, blowing strong winds in the direction of the Ares campers. It's tawny beak was sharp and gleaming with a red liquid that might've been blood, and it's beady black eyes sparkled with intelligence.
I gripped my branch more tightly as it's feathered plumage buffeted the air around me, and I almost fell out of the tree. Not something I was planning on doing, and so I willed the winds to support me in the air.
I grinned as I realised what my father had done. He'd sent one of his daughter's minions, the almighty Athena, to disguise my power over the winds. If I used them against the Ares campers, discreetly at least, they would assume it was the owl.
I said a silent prayer of thanks to Zeus and Athena, and glanced down to see the five campers backing up so fast that one of them actually tripped over their sword sheath. I let out a short laugh of mirth, and grinned down at the surprised and enraged Ares campers.
"Hey guys!" I called down to them. "You alright against a little wind? I thought your dad was tougher than that."
They growled retorts, but only Clarisse's was heard over the owl's sharp caws.
"Youi wanna come say that to my face, you little creep! Bring it on!"
Clarisse brandished Lamer, and I scowled. No way was I about to let Clarisse make an idiot out of me.
"No problem, Clarisse! You and Lamer want to play? Come on, then!" I yelled back, slipping down through the scratchy branches and landing with unatural grace on the grassy forest floor. I could hear the owl as it sped away, and stopped in midair. As if in an afterthought, it swooped down once more and knocked over all the Ares campers besides Clarisse, who was slowly advancing on me.
"You little dork," Clarisse hissed as she swiped at my side with her spear. The metal connected with my shield, which sparked and I felt a slight shock run up my left arm. But it hardly affected me. Hard to kill a child of the god of lightning with lightning. "You aren't worthy to fight that death kid, never mind a real warrior."
I realsied Clarisse was talking about Nico. She must've seen us walk into the forest earlier that afternoon.
You want to play mind games Clarisse? I thought, dodging another strike to my rib cage. I'm the last person you want to play those with.
I said nothing, but reached out with my left hand, with which I'd already dropped my shield. Her friends stood in a circle around us, watching like a crowd watching an interesting tennis game.
Clutching Lamer's handle midshaft, I sliced down with my dagger and the spearhead snapped off with a sickening crack.
I heard Clarisse mutter something a little like 'witch', although this word would've earned me a suspension at my old school.
The agme was won. I watched as the Ares banner was carried across the nearby creek, by Aiden, who was grinning manically. The silk banner shimmered and the gaudy red backround became a soft, glowing gold. The boar head and bloody spear morphed into a bright gold sun with a white lyre emblazoned across it.
"Apollo has won!" announced Chiron, who was galloping out of the trees. "Heroes, bed! Now. Don't make me say it twice." he seemed to look directly at the Stoll brothers when he said that, and Travis and Connor appeared genuinally dissapointed.
The last sight of camp I saw before I turned in was Clarisse swearing revenge on me, glaring at me with enough anger to make Kronos turn around and jump back into Tartarus.

Aurelia
That night, I dreamed about angels.
They were beautiful, with flawless skin, piercing eyes of gold and green and blue, flowing hair and endearing features that would've made Aphordite jelous. Their wings were all ivory white, pure and beautiful as if the feathers were made of white silk. But they all had somber expressions, as if all the angels shared a heavy burden that was crushing them.
They all stodd in a sort of line along the edge of a cliff, occasionally diving off the side, and swooping down with their wings spread, to soar back up to the cliff. There was one, a blond girl with vibrant green eyes, that looked at me as if she recognized me. But most paid me no attention.
There was a great screeching noise and a cry went up through the angels. Something loomed out form the cliff edge, like a tidal wave pulling into a beach. It was made entirely of darkness, with two scarlet eyes glittering with evil intelligence.
I knew this thing was dangerous, and the angels knew it, too. They stood, shoulder to shoulder, like a human wall. Their beautiful faces flared with defiance, and they all seemed to glow with power.
The darkness swallowed several angels, who were dragged into the looming mass from the whipping winds. The others spread their wings and stood against the wind, their flowing hair whipping around in the storm surrounding them. Several more disappeared, and I gasped. The thing was taking a shape: an enormous face, like Typhon's but much worse, like a crude drawing of a skeleton. It grinned, a terrible and horrifying sight.
I backed away as more angels were sucked into the oncoming void. The angel with the blond hair and green eyes turned to face me and shouted something, something that should've been lost on the wind, but somehow made it to me:
"The giant approaches."
Suddenly, I was spinning into the void, and the blond angel was gripping my hand, only she wasn't the blond angel anymore, it was Nico, his black hair sticking to has face from the sheer force of the gales that were blowing at us from every direction, and we were soaring closer and closer to the giant's two gleaming red eyes, like scarlet torches burning through a hurricane, and we were going to die, and -
I dropped out of my bunk, falling onto the floor with a dull thud. The sheets were twisted around me in a spiral, and my pajamas stuck to my back with cold sweat. None of the other campers were there, and I was glad. I hated seeming weak in front of anyone, even the people I shared a cabin with year round.
I sat up and ignored the pain blossoming in my side as I attempted to untangle myself from the sheets. A quiet laugh sounded from the shadowy corner, and made me jump.
I glanced up to see Nico, standing there in his black jeans and tee shirt, his dark avaitor's jacket gone, looking very amused. I felt myself flush and was suddenly glad for the darkness that would disguise the blushing. I dropped my gaze and wrestled the blanket off of me, finally dumping it on my bunk and standing, hands on hips, anger flaring through me.
"What do you want?" I demanded. Nico grinned at that, and I felt myself thinking about how that morning he'd actually helped me and seen the lightning bolt suspended over my head, like the calling card of some deranged weatherman.
"Well, you, I suppose," he replied nonchalantly, and I raised my eyebrows.
"I need to talk to you," He said, his voice urgent. "Now."
"Now?" I complained, catching a glimpse of the dark night sky.
"Now."
"Why, do you always drag your friends out of bed at one a.m. to explain the gods deepest wishes, or was that a punishment saved especially for me?" I asked mockingly, and Nico shot me a look that said quite clearly, 'shut up.'
"Fine, I'll come. Just let me get changed."
"There's no time for that right now," he hissed, and I paused, halfway to my bag. "What?"
"They're coming," he whispered. "And fast."
"Who's coming?" I demanded, my tone colored with annoyance.
"Lycaon's minions," Nico explained, pointing to the window. The moon was full and set in the inky sky. "Now, do you want to be devored by insane bloodthirsty wolves, or do you want to live through the night?"
"Live." I squeaked, heading straight for the door.

4. Werewolves, Giant Eagles, and Other Annoying Pests
Elodie
I was hunting when they came.
I'm not like most demigods. Most demigods go to Camp Half-Blood, train to fight the monsters that conceal themselves so well in our world, and live to go on quests to show off their skills and courage. I, on the other hand, got to the edge of Camp Half-Blood and got turned into a squirrel.
Yes, I know, a squirrel? But I'm not kidding. One second I was plunging a dagger into the stomach of a very annoying Cyclops, the next I'm eight inches tall and covered in hair. Not the most pleasant experience. And did you know that changing into a squirrel could leave an aftertaste? I didn't either.
Until it happened, of course.
Chiron had assumed me dead, and a few hours later I was changed back. I knew it was my father, trying to shield me from the acid and outright hostility that would inevitably come with me being at Camp. I could stay in the woods, hunt monsters for practice, but always stay in the shadows. Always be cautious and careful. Never take any risks, which was difficult for me.
I was the daughter of Pan, after all. Life was clever with it's difficulties, but when it came to the Olympians, it was more like the gods were spitting on you with bad luck. Whenever something really awful happens, I call it 'God Spit'. I truly hated the gods for what they'd done to me.
I was waiting for a rabbit to finally wander into the snare I'd set up - what I'd been doing for a solid two hours - when the two figures came running into the trees.
One was a young girl, about my age: thirteen or fourteen. Her black hair fell in soft waves to her shoulders, streaked with electric blue dye, her pale face streaked with mud. Her eyes were a startling blue against the nearly colorless complexion of pale skin and black hair; like the sky on a sunny day, but with more depth. She was wearing a pair of old running shorts and a tattered black tee shirt with red words scrawled across the front. She panted and was gripping the other person's arm frantically.
The other figure, it turned out, was a guy around the same age. His black hair was ruffled like he'd just rolled out of bed, his pale complexion even more prominent than the girl's. His dark eyes were searching and I suspected that he'd see right through any pretense I threw up in order to keep my father's identity a secret. He wore all blac: black tee shirt, black jeans, black avaitor's jacket clutched in one hand, even a black sword.
"Do you think they can get through the Camp's borders?" the girl gasped as he caught her breath. The boy shook his head.
"Not for long, but one or two might make it through. And even if they don't, we both know why they're here."
The girl cast him a shocked expression.
"How could they know already? I only found out this morning!" she exclaimed, obviously agitated.
"Anyone could've told them. And I get why Lycaon of all monsters would be after you."
The girl shrugged in confusion. "Why?"
"Zeus killed his fifty sons, and made him a werewolf. He has a score to settle."
What was he talking about? How could Lycaon have a score to settle with someone at Camp Half-Blood, if his enemy was Zeus? How did that work at all?
"You think he's after me," the girl asked, her voice now a hushed whisper. Her blue eyes were brimming with terror and realization. I understood one thing in all of that: Lycaon's minions were coming to attack them, and I owed something to the demigods of Camp Half-Blood. I may not have ever been a camper there, but I'd used their forest for so long, been part of their army when they defended Olympus, even snuck into a few campfires. I had to do this, as the daughter of Pan. And as a ghost.
I wasn't technically supposed to be alive. Something had happened, something I really wasn't inclined to explain to most people. I'd died on June 21st, 1922, when I'd gone on a quest to Olympus on the Summer Solstice. And two weeks ago, my soul had been brought back to the land of the living by a son of Hades ... Max, he'd said his name was?
I couldn't recall, but I knew I had to try something to make myself worth living again.
That was when the wolves burst through the trees, in the same instant that I dropped down from the tree branches to stop in between the two demigods and the pack of lycanthropes, reaching into my messenger bag thudding against my hip. At least, it was supposed to be my dagger. It was, instead, I produced a small umbrella.
"You're kidding me!" I cursed. Why couldn't I be the demigod who hopped down out of the trees, expertly wielding the dagger, saving the people and killing the monster without tripping over my own feet and looking like a dork.
