My name is Alice Joyce Mellark. I am the oldest child of Kristina & Tristan Mellark. I am the third oldest great-great-great grandchild of the original Mockingjay Katniss Everdeen-Mellark and husban/fellow victor Peeta Mellark. Last year the Capitol regained power enslaving the districts once again. There is no tesserae anymore, but the descendants of known rebels and previous victors that range from the age of 10-20 have more entries in the reaping. I am fifteen and have 34 entries at random for being one of the descendants of the Mockingjay. I can only be thankful that none of my siblings are ten or older yet. I am the only one in the family who has to suffer the reaping. This is my story, my life, and my secrets. Welcome  to the 198th Hunger Games

Taken from Alice's Journal throught the Hunger Games

Hi I'm gonna write the first part of the story now, but I just thought I'd tell you that if it's written in "this" font it's means Alicwrote it in her diary, but if it's written in  "this" font it means it's in the actual story. And here's the first two parts of the story

Dear Journal,
While I right this it is the night before the Reaping. My mother and father say that I should not worry. Even if I have 34 entries in the reaping, there are still a thousands of other slips to choose from. In my opinion their being optimistic. I know the Capitol will abuse the Reaping to weed out all the children like me. I can almost be sure that my name will come out of that Reaping ball, but I am not afraid. I will power through these games I will make it and all I can say is good luck to my fellow tributes. They're going to need it.
                                                                                   Sinecerly,
                                                                                       Alice Joyce Mellar
k

Chapter One:

I wake up in the morning smiling until I finally remember what day it is. My birthday or better yet, the Reaping. I can't help, but despise the Capitol for this insult. Making the Reaping on the day of my birth. They probably don't even know when my birthday is, but I can almost hear the Capitol's laughter at making what's suppose to be my most joyful day of the year into the day of great fear. Today I turn fifteen. Today might also be my one-way ticket to death.

I stretch as I get out of bed. The sky is cloudy gray as if it agrees with my mood. Once I get out of bed. I see it. The simple black lace dress with matching shoes and a white jacket. It's lovely, it must of once been my mother's because I do not even own a dress.

My father usual joked that I'm  a lot like our great ancestor Katniss, but I see nothing like her in me, well maybe I do have her fiery temper and tongue, but I doubt of any of her great traits. I do not find myself brave, kind, a great healer, or even humble like she was, though my father swears that I look exactly like her exactly. Maybe I do, I look nothing like my mother and only have one resemblence to my father. My hair is strait and black unlike my mother's which is auburn and curly or my father's which is blonde and wavy, both my parents have fair skin, but me? I have olive skin. My only resemblence is to my father. I have his gray eyes.

I put on the dress and shoes and find a small box adorned with intricate writing of the lullaby I had always loved. I place the box in my palm and carefully lift the lid. Inside is a pin of a bird, a Mockinjay to be exact surrounded with a small band of gold, written in mall letters on a note ontop of it is:
Let the Mockingjay protect you. Written in my father's neat handwriting. I've always heard of this pin, my father talked about it often, but why has it come to me? Why not one of my older cousins who have more entries than me? I have no idea why me, but I am comforted by the small pin, it's almost as if Katniss is watching over me.

We eat quickly during breakfast. I'm the only one included in the reaping. Devin and Jenavive are 7 and 9. Next year Jenavive will compete in the reaping, but if I am able to win the games this whole generation for my family will be exepted from the reaping. It's all I can hope that if I go into these games I will hope I can win.

We reach the square where everyone is. All my cousins, uncles, and aunts live in other districts and I'm the only descendant off Katniss here in District 12 at the moment. People point at meet the kids around me stare at the pin in awe. The sign of the rebellion.

The escort for District Twelve introduces herself as Nimelia Trinket. She must be a descendant of Effie Trinket I'm guessing. She starts a speech that reminds me of the treaty of treason that my parents used to laugh at while telling me, but this one is more bloody, more disasterous then the treaty of treason.

"Well let's get these Hunger Games started!" she says enthusiastically. She walks toward the Reaping Ball for boys and huddles back to the podium and calls "Kenneth Wimfred Milnover." I have no interest in this. I can only watch as she makes her way to the girl's Reaping ball. She's made the last step towards the podium and unfolds the slip of paper I see her eyes flicker with sadness and then she's calling out. "Alice Joyce Mellark."

The crowd suddenly bursts with sounding with I volunteer, but Nimelia shakes her head eyes downcast. "The rules of the new Hunger Games are simple. There are no volunteers."

GOSH!!! I've been off the MB for almost a whole day!!! It's been a black-out for 18 hours!!!! Well for how long I've been awake anyway that doesn't count sleeping time so yeah 18 hours while I was AWAKE!?!?!? Why I put the question marks I don't know:

I can't help the anger washes over me. New rules that my parents never expected, of course that's why they told me not to worry! They thought someone else would volunteer for me.

I mount the stage, my arms folded behind my back. I watch as the major stand up and walk towards the podium. He smoothes out his suit and tries not to cringe at the death glares that the crowd is shooting at him. He starts up a new speech filled with the marvelous honor of being in the new Hunger Games talks about how if the tributes go down in battle they will be honored with a feast for the whole district, it's almost mockingly small compared to the winning districts feast though.

Me and Kenneth are taken into custody by the peacekeepers and "escorted" to the Justice Building, where the peacekeepers get less pleasant. When I say I was thrown into my room, I literally mean they threw me into the room.

I stand up and groan, I am no weakling, but I don't think they should be trying to crack my ribs before they throw me into the arena. I sit on the coach with and indifferent face. My parents have been training me for this ever since they announced that there were going to the Hunger Games, I know I can win this if I put an effort. My father had even made me sleep in the woods to give me grief for not waking up early enough the other morning.

My family comes in. Mother is weeping softly, but uncontrolabley in my father's arms, but my father is stronger than that. He gives me a firm nod. He knew this was always a possibility. My siblings are another situation completely. They are banging on the door, wailing that's it's not fair that their going to put me in the games.

NOOOOOOOOO I'VE GOT TO GO TO BED!!!!!!! STUPID CURFUE!!! (or however you spell that)

"Jenavive, Devin stop it!" I say pulling them away from the door. They thrash in my arms. I kneel infront of them and hold them still brushing away some of the stray tears.

"Listen to me both of you. You will not rebel, you will not!" I say fiercly as they start shaking their heads vigorously. If there's anything that my siblings have in common with me it's the need for justice and of course being almost impossibly stubborn.

"No matter what you see on that screen you will be fine, you cannot do anything about it. I don't want you to get hurt, please listen to me!" I beg them as they try to shake there heads. Both my hands come up to cuff both of their cheeks.

"Please, for me," I whisper hugging both of them. My parents come and rap their arms around me and them. Almost too quickly the peacekeepers are there taking them away. Devin is screaming my name over and over I grasp his hand one more time and give it a firm squeeze and then the peacekeepers yank him from my grasp and slam the door with a loud snap. I can't help the tears that escape my eyes..

The next person who comes scares me so much I know I probably won't be coming back to see that face again. "Travis," I whisper hugging him. Travis is my best friends. He always has so much utter confidence in me that you'de think I was invincible of something. We haven't been talking much for the past days. We had an arguement over what I had thought was his girlfriend.

"You have to come back," he whispered unwrapping his arms around her. She looked at him because he already knew the answer.

"You know I'll try," I whisper smiling at him.

"That's the Alice I know and -" he faltered for a minute. I can't help, but blush brilliant scarlett. He smiles for a second and then the peacekeepers are there pulling him out.

I have no more visitors. The peacekeepers take me and Kenneth to the train and the cameras starts swarming everywhere. I can't help, but get annoyed at one of the cameras that starts following my every movement.

We board the train and watch the videos of the reaping. My mind catalogs several that really pop out at me. It's probably bacause my parents have told me their last names several times. There were siblings from district two: Mariel and Beckett Hawthorne. And a girl from district four: Annamarie Odair.

Dear Journal,
I hate to say this, but I told you so journal. What did I tell you! Didn't I tell you I was going to be reaped!? Now it's happened! Argh!!! I feel like a fool! I actually believed I had a chance to not get reaped. I was just so ingnorant! Oh and Nimelia is a horrible dinner partner! She goes on and on blabbing things that have close to no usefulness when it comes to the games. Like table manners, color patterns, and her favorites food. It was horrid! Oh there she is again telling me to get up because we're at the Capitol... >:(

                                                                                                           Sincerely,
                                                                           Alice Joyce Mellark

Elzia: Awesome! Your story has a good balance of detail and action! (and that is a REALLY important thing)! :) As a reader when I read it, I can get a good idea of what Alice's thoughts and view on things are. It's not only fact, but also perspective. One request: DON'T LET ALICE DIE! :P

"ARGH!" I gasp as Saffra, a woman with green hair and Jade colored tattoos covering her arms and legs yanks a strip of cloth plucking the hairs beneath, stinging my skin. "Sorry!" She trills in her high accent spinning away from me to examine me. She give a look of frustration and I give a moan of torture. My parents had told me time and time again that if I was reaped I'd have to go through this, but it truly is annoying and painful to actually have it happen.

"Shh. It's almost over, just one more," she trills again comfortingly walking forward wealding another strip of cloth again and placing it on my leg sowly. I grip the counter top tightly and squeeze my eyes shut and give a nod.

"Alright on the count of three," she says with a fond smile. "One. Two. Three!" Saffra trills one again pulling the strip of cloth, causing me to bite my tongue so hard I'm sure I've left a bruise.

You should have a decendent of Rue (her sister), Joanna, and Maybe someone from 13? If not, I understand, it's your story, not mine. :)
Great story!
