This week I brought The Dead of Night to Hollywood and saw tons of movie stars! Okay, they all were on billboards. But I did really meet a surprise star, in person, at my next location, Salt Lake City! And I spent a lot of time on freeways. Which made me very, very hungry. More on that later — plus statues, chocolate, a new writing prompt, and a reveal of my mystery location from the last post! But first, what a blast I had reading your prompt responses. I’m impressed by your imaginations, the improvements you’ve made as writers, and the great support you’re showing one another. What an awesome community!Last time I promised Q&A. To those who asked if I could visit their town/city: the tour is packed with more than 75 events, including tons of school visits. It’s all been tightly planned and organized for months by my awesome publisher, Scholastic, and it’s posted here. But I can visit anywhere (yes, including Canada, where I’ve been twice recently) on a school visit — just have your teacher of librarian check out my Author Visits page.CheerfulSeeker1: What was the first book you ever wrote and when was it published?A book of puzzles and games called (oddly enough) Puzzles and Games, in 1983.OnyxTiger45: Do you read all the responses to the story prompts personally or does someone else?I personally read them all. (And I hope someone else reads them too — lots of someone elses!)FightingCobra225: But what do you like to read?Mystery, historical fiction, basically any novel with really good writing. And I make sure to read a lot of nonfiction too.DarkTiger40: Out of all of the 39 Clues and Cahills vs Vespers books you've written so far, which character is the hardest to write about and why?DaintyOfficer1: Was it hard writing about Jake Rosenbloom in The Dead of the Night? I think he's kind of a complicated character.I’ll answer both Dark and Dainty: yes. Jake. I worked hardest on his character for The Dead of Night. Once I figured him out, he became great fun to write.DancingTeam1: I want to be a writer and I'm good at it, but I feel like I'm pulling away from my friends, which I don't want to do. What should I do?Maybe you need a little private time for your ideas. Take the time. But make sure to be kind to your friends and let them know you’ll be back. They’ll be happy you do.OnyxWolf91: When you write stories, what process do you use? Do you write everything down first, or do you carefully plan it?Yes, I outline my books very carefully before I start writing.AmethystButterfly167: Do you have any pets? What is your favorite color? What is your absolute favorite food? Not since the guinea pig died, blue, and chocolate.DragonAdventure181: If you could meet any character from the 39 clues or the Cahills Vs. Vespers, who would it be and why?Buffy the dog, from Book 3, who fascinates me inexplicably.AgentCourier10: You are kidnapped by unknown Vespers, and transported to a desert island. Using your wits and a few coconuts, you are able to contact the Attleboro crew, and the Cahills. They agree to rescue you, but, can only send one agent. Out of the eight agents (Ian, Sinead, Amy, Dan, Evan, Hamilton, Jonah, and Saladin) who would you want to rescue you, and why?Saladin? Really? Let me think about this ... BronzeEagle168: What inspired you to become a writer? What was your favourite book when you were small?I loved reading Jack London. His stories, which took place in the Far North, were so vivid I could feel freezing cold in the dead of summer. I wanted to do what he did!DragonChallenger20: What is your advice for some who has started eight novels, but can't seem to finish? I mean getting started is easy for me. But finishing? You've got to be kidding. How do you handle a writer's creative block?Chocolate, mostly. But really, the only “cure” for writer’s block is to sit there until you finish. Time is your friend. Take it. It could very well be you haven’t found the story that really connects deeply with you yet. But I would recommend picking out one of your stories and trying to outline it — just a brief summary of what will happen, right to the end of the book. Do a couple of drafts of that outline, and then try again. It will feel amazing to finish something.InventorLavender1: I know a lot of people are asking you what it's like to be a writer, etc, etc. But I know that you were also an actor. Had being an actor helped you be an author at any time?Definitely! Especially with dialog. When you’re an actor you get such a strong sense of storytelling and the economy of language.EkaterinaDragon327: When did you want to become a writer?Early on. I don’t even remember not wanting to be a writer!InfiltrateRattlesnake1: Is it true that there is a movie on the clue hunt set to be released?DreamWorks is working on it. We know they have a screenplay but the movie hasn’t been cast, so we’re sitting tight, waiting to hear.BearDeciphering2: Why do you almost ALWAYS wear a red hat? Is it because you're uncomfortable being partly bald?Well, the hat isn’t always red! And I recommend being partly bald — it’s VERY comfortable. But you need to protect your comfortable head against the sun.BreakingHurricane5: In the dead of night, you forgot a comma between Nellie said she sacrificed stuff like food, her iPod tukey and having to listen to Natalie. You forgot the comma in-between turkey and iPod.No, that was done correctly. “Cold turkey” is not an actual turkey. It’s an expression that means “suddenly or without preparation.”SteelBone2: Why is it that everyone's High School/Collage pictures from waaaaayyyyy back in your day make them look hillarious?Ha! Believe it or not, yours will too!OK, DRUMROLL, PLEASE ... Remember that mysterious breathtaking waterfall? To those who figured it out: your research skills humble me. Here’s the reveal. Although I was sad to leave the Pacific Northwest, my pals in Southern California went out of their way to make me feel welcome, including the Aeolian Elementary School ...
The presentation was sponsored by Mrs. Nelson’s Books, which was an amazing place to visit, as always.
I got another great welcome at Barnes & Noble in Huntington Beach, where the bright 7:00 P.M. sun felt like midday.
Someone in this crowd knows how I feel about chocolate — and look what she presented to me! (Did I mention how much I love being an author? Let me count the ways ... )
Like my HB cap? It stands for Huntington Beach. And no, I didn’t eat all the chocolate. I had to be alert the next day, for Lincoln Elementary School. I didn’t cownt on having to travel to the gym on the back of a red bovine. Unherd of! The school provided an udderly wonderful welcome sign, and the enthusiasm of the kids was quite mooving. I milked this visit for all it was worth.

Although they did not have a lion statue, they more than made up for it with this:
As if that wasn’t enough excitement, I met a bright, enthusiastic, and warmly welcoming crowd later that day at the Chamlian Armenian School.
All those presentations get a cowpoke mighty hungry. So I galloped into the Eagle Rock neighborhood to find some good grub. When I discovered a huge Filipino community, I let out a YEE-HAH! Our books have many fans in the Philippines — and you know who you are, so here’s a mabuhay to you:
Between the chocolate and the bibingka (a delicious type of rice cake from the Philippines), I was energized to take on Salt Lake City. (And, naturally, I switched caps.)
Once I started eating, there was no stopping me. In Utah my book tour became a food hunt.
In between meals I visited more schools, hosted by the amazing King’s English bookstore ...
...after which I went right back to, well, you know. (This restaurant, the oldest in Salt Lake City, had an entire Thanksgiving meal in a sandwich —turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce!)
After that, I needed a long hike. Salt Lake City has some breathtaking views and monster hills. It also has ... STATUES! As always, they taught me well and graciously took all my advice.
After running into Roland Smith in Portland, I hoped to find Linda Sue Park or David Baldacci in L.A. Alas, no such luck. But there was a friendly chap at my hotel in Salt Lake City, who was reading one of my favorite books ... Well, you’ll never believe who this guy really was! (Actually, you probably caught on before I did.) Now we have a mutual fan club.
Next stop, a couple of days in NYC and then Houston! Okay, for the next blog post, I will have a special challenge for all of you, a real 39 CLUES MESSAGE BOARD EXCLUSIVE!I can’t tell you about it yet, but I promise it will be fun! For now, a great big shout-out to ALL of you from around the world who have followed me on this incredible journey. Good to have you with me.
And, before I forget, back by popular demand, here is the newest writing prompt:“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.

I never did your writing prompts before, so I'll give it a try!
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.
"Umm, Amy?" Evan finally called.
Amy sighed in relief. "I brought you company," he continued.
Amy heard thumping footsteps. "Some Vespers?!?!" she screamed.
Amy stammered, "Y-y-your a-a V-ves-s-per?"
"Oh, no! I'm Vesper 1," Evan said, smirking.
"H-how could you!"
But, the next view Amy saw was nothing, just pitch black. Evan and his 'Vesper friends' had drugged her.

Here is my reply to the prompt:
"Yes!" Amy said as she opened the page of the book, "This is it!"
A sudden Thud! drew Amy's thoughts away from her excitement. She quickly returned the priceless book and crossed the room.
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.
"E- Evan?" Amy stuttered, but there was still no response. Worried, she ran up the stairs praying that nothing had happened to him.
"If something did," Amy thought, "It is totally his fault; I told him not to come." she didn't mean it, of course. If something did happen she would never forgive herself, and wouldn't blame him in the slightest.
She was about to burst out of the basement, when SLAM! The door swung shut.
"No!" Amy screamed furiously.
She jiggled the handle and pounded on the door, but it refused to budge. Blindly, she reached back and tried to find something that would help her get to Evan. Not a thought about her own safety passed through her mind; though she should have.
Her hand brushed against a piece of leather and she jumped. A hand shot out and grabbed her shoulder, and an arm covered by a leather sleeve of a jacket held her in place.
A smooth voice spoke in her ear, "Dear me, what have we here?"
Amy struggled to get free; she knew the voice only too well.
"Let's descend to the bottom, sweet Amy, to avoid falling." the voice of Casper Wyoming suggested playfully.
Reluctantly, Amy was dragged down the stairs fighting all the way. She managed to strike him on the shoulder as the neared the last few steps.
"Feisty huh?" Casper said amused, "Let me demonstrate how to do it correctly." With that he swung his fist upward and nailed the helpless Amy on the forehead.
"Amy you aren't the best fighter." Casper teased as she thrust her into a chair and secured her with rope.
Amy was no match against Casper's strength or equipment. No one could see in this pitch black darkness without the use night vision glasses.
"W-where is E- Evan?" Amy demanded, her nuisance stutter unveiling itself again.
"Amy do you fail so miserably to see that your own life is in danger?" Casper taunted.
"Evan's safety is more important to me." Amy retorted.
"What about mine?" Casper teased.
"Please!" Amy begged exasperated.
"Alright, if you persist. He is being taken care of by my sister Cheyenne. Can we continue now that you know he's perfectly safe."
"Safe?" Amy yelled, "He's anything but with your ruthless sister!"
"I take that as a yes," Casper continued, "I would like to make a trade, but first I must ask you something."
"What?"
"How much is life worth; anyone's life worth?"
"A person's life is worth much more than anything else in the world."
"I thought that was how you felt," Casper said, "So I would like to make you a trade: Evan's life for Gideon's ring."
Evan had gone upstairs to get some equipment. He had grabbed some extra flashlights and was heading to his backpack to grab some Chips Ahoy, when he felt a sharp pain crash down upon his skull. Then all was black.
A foul odor woke him from his sleep and a miserable ache housed itself inside his head. His body wanted to grab his head and cry out in pain, but found itself tightly bound and gagged.
His first thought was, "Amy!"
He opened his eyes, and instantly regretted it. Standing over him was none other than Cheyenne Wyoming, sealing a small yellow bottle.
"Awake Evan?" Cheyenne said in a mockingly sweet voice.
It was no use faking his sleep so Evan tried to speak, but the gag muffled his words.
"Oh, you have a gag. Too bad you can't talk. Were you wondering what was in the bottle? It was a chemical I used to wake you. I could have left you like that for much longer, but I thought it'd be more amusing having you awake." She grinned.
He knew she wanted him to suffer through the headache she was doubtlessly able to remove, had she the mind to do it. The important question still remained; where was Amy? And was she still alive?
"I think it must be time to start," Cheyenne said pleasantly, as if they were about to eat cake, "I just heard Casper's beep."
"Casper?" thought Evan, "Casper has Amy? Oh no!"
"I think it's also time to remove the gag." Cheyenne said.
Amy was not a girl to give up or give in, but when another person's life was on the line, she wasn't going to risk it. Yet she had to stall for time. Someone'd be bound to wonder why it was taking her so long and come looking for her. Or maybe Evan or even herself'd be able to somehow contact the others. Either way, time needed to be slowly wasted.
"I- I don't have i- it!" Amy said.
"I know you do," Casper said, his voice held a hint of annoyance, "Your lies are pointless, now hand the ring over."
"You think I'd be fool enough to carry it with me?" Amy asked, making sure her voice sounded confident and stutter free, "I don't have it, but that doesn't mean I don't know where it is."
"Well, we don't have all day."
"I do. You don't."
"Evan doesn't either."
Amy paused to think through what she'd say next, "Well, I can't show you unless you untie me and allow me to show you."
"Who said you need show me? Telling me would do."
"It'd be too hard to explain the location."
"Why?"
"Because I have to picture the landmarks and don't know the precise location."
"Ah," Casper said, "So it's not inside a bank or building."
"No."
"Well, for a start tell me where."
"Let me show you and you shall know."
"Amy!" Casper was loosing his patience fast, "You know what I am capable of! You owe me- or let's say -Evan an answer!"
"You won't kill Evan!" Amy snapped, "If you do you don't have any leverage. If he's no longer in the picture, than you won't hear any information from me!"
To Amy's obvious surprise Casper started laughing somewhere off to her right, "Be silent dearest and listen for my leverage."
Amy was silent and listening when a sharp scream rang through the air, seemingly coming from upstairs, yet still dreadfully loud. The scream's owner was unmistakably in excruciating pain. The scream repeatedly pierced the air; Amy knew exactly whose it was.
"Stop!" Amy pleaded, "Please! I'll tell you! Just stop torturing him!"
Evan hated screaming. He hated the pain. He hated too that Amy was supposed to hear and that he was being used to assist the Wyomings in manipulating Amy. It was unfair. His rage was overthrown though by the tormenting pain.
He screamed again as the pain fiercely assaulted him.
He flinched, awaiting the next cruel infliction, but it didn't come. Painfully he twisted around, and looked quizzically up at Cheyenne, but she merely laughed and said, "No more screams are needed Evan."
One thought shot through Evan's head, "Amy, no!"
"I hid it on Saladin." Amy said.
"You lie!" Casper shouted accusingly, his hand gripped her shoulder painfully tight.
"I am telling the truth!" Amy insisted, "No one, not even yourself, would suspect that I'd hide it in the collar of my cat!"
"You made a smart decision in telling me Amy," Casper said, "The life of your pathetic friend is nothing in my eyes. Only in your clouded ones."
Amy was silent, not knowing what to say. So Casper continued, "You and your boyfriend have an hour left before an accidental explosion demolishes the house."
"W- what!" Amy said, her stutter breaking through, proving her fear, "N- n- no! I g- g- gave you w- what you asked for! You and Vesper one n- n- need me alive, a- a- along with Dan!"
He laughed at Amy's stunned expression, "As I said before, only one of you is needed. And you dear Amy are too dangerous. Too much in the way. So I bid you a fair farewell."
Still blinded by the complete darkness she could not see Casper, but heard him walk swiftly away. Before he reached the stairwell he secured a small mechanical devise to the wall then dashed up the stairs. She saw the light from the doorway appear than quickly vanish as Casper closed the door, leaving her alone with the bomb, counting down backwards with its red light up countdown, so she could watch the seconds slip by until her tragic death.
Evan lay down upon the floor overwhelmed by exhaustion, and watched as Casper and Cheyenne, together, moved a large oak desk against the door leading to the basement. The brother and sister walked side by side out of the house, their job there accomplished, yet they still had more to do.
Evan tried to roll, intending to cross the room, but the end of the rope that bound him was tied the leg of a sturdy bookshelf. If he continued pulling he might nock the shelf down on top of him, and if he could make it out from underneath he could get to Amy.
He heaved and tugged at the rope that burned his skin, but he didn't stop, he kept pulling. As he pulled he began to realize that it would not fall onto him because the rope was only bound to one of the front legs. The rope dug into his hand cutting off circulation and rubbing against his skin mercilessly, but his strain on the bookcase never slackened. Slowly the bookshelf inched away from the wall. Evan neither quickened nor slowed his pace, he just kept on steadily. Finally the side of the bookcase was about two and a half feet from the wall, creating an acute angle. Evan made his way behind it, gave a tremendous shove with his back and the bookshelf toppled over. A few seconds later Evan had managed to slide the end of the rope off the bookshelf's leg and was now free to crawl around.
Evan still bound, slid his way across the room to his backpack, thankfully it was still intact. His determination to get free and rescue Amy was all that filled his mind. He unzipped the backpack with his hands bound behind his back, and after a few minutes, located his pocket knife. After a few more minutes he was free of the cursed rope and rubbing his ankles and wrists to get the circulation going again.
"I hope Amy's been having better luck than me," Evan wished.
Inside the basement, Amy was trying to topple the chair Casper had bound her to, but as much as she tried it remained in place. She glanced up at the clock, her breathe quick and irregular. 40:12. 40:11. 40:10. 40:09. It kept going down.
"I'm so s- s- sorry Evan," Amy cried, tears wetting her cheek, "I shouldn't h- have let you come. I- I- I shouldn't have brought y- you into this. I- I- . . ." more tears fell from her soaked lashes as hopelessness settled in and regret weighed heavily on her shoulder.
The dizziness she had long been fighting grew stronger, the bruise on her head ached and throbbed, exhaustion clung to her whole self. Amy had not enough energy left to continue this purposeless fight and her eyes slipped shut to embrace the warm hold of slumber.
36:59. 36:58. 36:57. 36:56. 36:55 . . . Time was falling further and further away. There was not much left.
Evan stood up and steadied himself against the dingy yellow wall. He eyed the large oak desk and tried to figure on how to move it. It had taken both Casper and Cheyenne to place it there. He wondered if he'd be able to slide it across the hardwood floor by himself. Well, only one way to find out.
He strode across the room toward the door, his steps falling heavily upon the floor, and grabbed an end of the desk. He heaved and pulled it toward him moving it a few inches. He repeated this until he had moved the one end a good ways, then went to other end and did the same. In less than eight minutes his hard work paid off and flashlight in hand, opened the door to the basement.
"Amy! Amy?" Evan anxiously called as he rapidly descended the steps, "Amy where are you? Answer me!"
He shone his flashlight around the room until he saw Amy. He rushed forward and found her unconscious, tied to a chair, and a nasty black eye.
"Casper!" Evan mumbled as he whipped out his pocket knife and set to work cutting her bonds.
When he had freed her he tried to wake her, but she wouldn't stir.
"Amy, what did he do to you?" Evan bent down and lifted Amy up. He started back toward the door when he saw the timed bomb on the wall. 28:02. 28:01. 28:00. 27:59. Evan hurried his steps and carried Amy's limo body up the stairs. He had no doubt in his mind what the bomb was. Once he was upstairs he laid Amy down on the sofa, quickly grabbed his backpack, lifted her back up, and rushed out of the house.
Evan breathed a sigh of relief as he laid Amy down more than a hundred yards away from that horrid deserted house. Grabbing his cell he called the Command Center, which was located only a few miles away.
"Hello? Coolest Ninja Lord ever, Dan speaking." Dan's voice came in uneven tones.
"Dan, what are you doing?"
"Swinging on a ninja swing I put up inside the living room. Whoa! Watch out lamp! Few! Whatcha need Evan?"
"Help."
"What? Uh oh!" Evan heard a loud crashing noise which he automatically knew was Dan, "Okay, I'm off the ninja swing. Now what happened?" Dan had switched to serious mode and his voice sounded worried.
Evan related what had happened and had to tell the whole thing over when Sinead showed up.
"Okay Evan," Sinead said, "We're coming right away. See you in a moment! Bye."
Evan pocketed his cell and sat next Amy. She hadn't moved since he had laid her down. He rubbed her chafed wrists and ankles hoping to increase the blood flow back to normal.
"E- Evan?" Amy's eyes wearily fluttered open as she winced in pain from her blow to the head.
Evan jumped, startled, yet he felt as if a huge burden had been lifted off his shoulder, "Amy!"
"Evan? You- you saved me? And you got us out?" Amy said looking around at the surrounding trees, and not the dark basement.
"Ya. It wasn't hard." Evan said trying to get her to relax; an impossible mission really.
"What happened to you? I heard you scream, what- what did they do to you? Are you alright?"
"Nothing much, I'm alright," Evan said, "What happened to you? You've got a black eye and all. You don't look fine at all."
Amy didn't believe nothing much happened, but understood that he didn't want to talk about it, "Casper just tried to get me to tell where Gideon's ring was so I told him it was on Saladin's collar." Amy laughed.
Evan smiled, Amy was back to her old self and everything was fine; she was safe . . . Temporarily.
The silence was interrupted by a screech of tires and the roar of an engine. True to her word, Sinead had arrived in the car a few minutes after Evan's call. Slamming on the brakes the car jolted to a stop, and out jumped Dan in his ninja suit and Sinead with a large first aid kit.
"Where's Amy?" Dan asked.
"I'm here Dan." Amy responded.
"Amy! Are you alright? Wow! Your eye! That reminds me of the first time you tried to wear makeup! Did you at least hit Casper with a good one? Good he didn't take your watch! He's so mean; I hope his car falls in a lake! If I had been there Casper would have died from overexposure to pure ninja awesomeness!" at that Dan posed which made Amy laugh so hard she started coughing.
Sinead pushed Dan aside who was also dying of laughter and said, "Leave her alone Dan and let me make sure she's alright."
After Sinead had made sure Amy was okay and applied some medicine and a few other things that no one understood, she sat Amy up and making sure that everyone was there she started the questioning.
"I've already heard the basic version," Sinead said, "But I have a few questions to ask. First; Amy, what made you decide to tell Casper the information, even though it was false?"
"I- I- I-," Amy stuttered, "They were torturing Evan."
Sinead glared at Evan, "Evan Tolliver! You said nothing about that! So you were brutally knocked out, then tortured, then you moved and nocked over a massive bookshelf, then you moved the desk, then you carried Amy all the way from the the basement out here! Aren't you exhausted? I would have expected you to collapsed already!"
Up until now he hadn't even thought about all the pain and exhaustion he felt. All he'd been concerned about was Amy. Now that Sinead had reminded him, he suddenly noticed it all and half fell, half sat down.
"There is no permanent damage done, thank goodness. Nothing rest and time can't cure." Sinead said in her usual matter-in-fact way.
Evan nodded his head.
Amy looked at him in shock, she'd had no idea he had done all that! She looked down and thought how pathetic she was. Evan had done all that to save her, it would have been much easier to run off and leave her. And what had she done? She'd gotten him into all of this! She'd let him come!
Evan read her expression and knew what she was thinking. Dan would have too had he not been demonstrating what he'd do if Casper came up to him right then. Lets just say you wouldn't want to be Casper.
Evan say next to Amy and saw that she was silently crying, "Amy?"
Amy quickly dried her tears, embarrassed that he had seen he like that, "Y- y- yes?"
"I did that because I couldn't leave you, you would have done the same for me. It's not your fault I'm in what you call 'this mess.' It's mine. I chose to enter into it. You belittle things you have done. You've risked yourself for many other who wouldn't be here now, had it been for you. Compared to what you've done, that was nothing. Now let's forget about it and move on."
"Alright." Amy said. Evan had made her feel a lot better, he had a way about doing stuff like that; making you feel important.
A loud explosion split the air. All four of them turned around and saw the house Amy and Evan had just been in, and saw the flames consume the entire structure.
"If you'd still been in there . . ." Dan started, but never finished the thought.
"Let's get in the car before anyone sees us." Sinead commanded more than suggested.
"Ya. Let's go!" everyone else agreed.
They all hopped into the car and sped away.
On the return back to Cahill Command Dan finally remembered something, "Amy?" he asked.
"Yes?"
"Did you get the information you actually went there looking for? Cause if you didn't it's gone!"
Everyone was listening now.
"Yes Dan," Amy answered, "I know exactly where it is now!"

I'll do something for the writing prompt. By the way, my story is set right after a vesper encounter at the Attleboro Mansion. Sorry, Sinead, Jonah, and Hamilton won't be in this story :(
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. No, please, not Evan, too, she thought. This couldn't be happening...Amy started to sob as Dan crouched beside her. "I'm sorry, Amy. The Vespers took him. There's nothing we can do." He was saying."'Nothing we can do?!' nothing we can do?! I can't believe it-- Evan trusted us and we failed him! We have to get him back!" Amy shrieked. Dan looked furious. "Do you think I'm happy about this, too?! They took Atticus...For the second time!"
And with that, Dan stormed off as Jake came up the stairway. Jake looked awful. He had a bruise on his left cheek and a big gash on his hand. And Jake was just as devastated of his brother's kidnapping as Dan. Thanks to the Vespers, the Attleboro Mansion had been robbed of two important people in the Cahills' lives. They had trashed the place. Where a vase once stood on a table with magazines, there was now a giant hole with papers floating around it.
And Ian had been with them...
"Why is everyone out to get Atticus?! Why can't they leave him alone for a change!" Jake shouted, even though he and Amy already knew the reason. Atticus was the last Guardian. As if having seven peoples' lives on the line wasn't good enough. Now they had nine! Amy made eye contact with Jake as she blinked away a tear.
"We'll do whatever it takes to save Atticus, the hostages, and Evan and to defeat the Vespers."

Here's what I wrote for the new Writing prompt...
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. Amy raced up the stairs, hoping she wasn't too late. She ran down the hallway, looking for any signs of Evan...
And you wanted to read more from the last prompt I wrote about...
(recap)
The lights flickered for a moment, and the scent of smoke began to fill the air. That’s when Jonah Wizard heard the scream. He panicked, and, forgetting to be cautious, grabbed the box, tripping one of the wires. Machine guns, embedded into the walls of the Vesper hideout, spat bullets, sirens wailed, whoever it was continued to scream, and the smoke grew thicker with every passing second. Jonah blindly raced across the room, trying not to be hit. He reached the door, only to find that it had been automatically locked. He was trapped.
(New)
He woke up some time later, blind-folded, with a terrible headache and his hands tied. He could tell that he was in some kind of moving vehicle...So, you're awake." a nasty voice whispered from in front. "Good. We have a ... surprise ... waiting for you when we arrive."

A man with a gun was approaching the door. "Evan!" Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment. No answer. The man reached out and before she could react the man had a tight grip on her hair. "Not a word missy." He hissed.
Dan had heard her screams and bounded into the room.

You guys did some awesome prompts! I'm just going to post mine on here since no one is paying attention to it on the other link.
"Evan!" Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer."Evan!" She tried again, slowly making her way up the wooden staircase. All was still.Where was he? I swear I saw him a couple of minutes ago, the Madrigal thought. "Evan?" Amy weakly called out, taking yet another daring step up the staircase. This time, her call sounded more like a question. An hour ago, Amy had gotten a call from a Cahill agent telling her to evacuate the mansion immeadiatly. The agent was about to tell her why, but then the phone call was cut off. When all the Cahills were safely outside, away from whatever horror was inside the house, Amy realized that one person was missing. And that person was her boyfriend. Though her relatives tried to keep her away from the mansion, Amy fought their strong grip and ran back in. Surprisingly, no one followed her.But now, Amy was scared. No, she was terrified. Her beloved boyfriend was trapped somewhere inside the huge home, and he was in alot of danger. All Amy had to do, was get him out on time. Before something unthinkable happens. When, Amy reached the top of the staircase she cautiously looked up and down the grand hallway. Evan could be in anyone of those rooms, so start looking, she told herself.Amy cautiously approached the first door. She quickly opened the door but was disappointed to find nothing inside the room. She moved on to the second door. When Amy opened it there was no one inside. No one.She let out a long breath. This could take forever. Amy went over to the next door. But, she didn't have a chance to open it.Because out of nowhere, Amy heard a loud clap of thick metal, forceful enough to make anybody jump out of their skin. A gunshot. Evan, was her first thought. Amy raced down the hallway, attempting to follow the thunderous sound from the gun. She quickly checked every door. Finally, she came to her stop.Last door. Be prepared for whatever you see, Amy, she told herself. Taking a deep breath, she kicked the door open.Inside, stood her dear Evan Tolliver, perfectly alive and healthy, grinning like a madman.Amy's first thought was, he's alive! But her second thought was much diffrent. He has a gun. *** The sharp sound of the gunfire interrupted Dan Cahill's daydreaming. One minute he was the amazing Ninja Lord, fighting in the battlefield, then the next he was brought back to reality. The reality that continues to ruin his life. Dan looked around the Cahills and the Rosenblooms. Hamilton, Jonah, and Erasmus stopped their conversation and looked over at the mansion. Sinead quit walking around in circles. Ian looked absolutely terrified. Jake stopped staring at the ground and started staring at the mansion. Atticus's eyes seemed to pop out of their sockets.Dan's heart seemed to stop beating. My only sister, he thought as tears started streaming down his face. This can't be happening.Atticus put his arm around his best friend. "Dan, it's all right. I'm sure that's not what it seems. I'm positive Amy is alive. She isn't dead, no, she can't be dead."Dan just kept crying. All those great years he spent with Amy and now she was gone. Forever. He wished he could take back the mean things he called her over the years. He wished he could say to her, 'I love you' one more time. Dan thought he was going to go insane.Sinead walked over to him. Dan could see she had tears in her eyes. "Dan, Amy can't be gone. She is too strong to leave us. She cares for us too much. So I am - ""Stop it, Sinead!" Dan screamed. "Amy's gone. And nothing can change that now. NOTHING!""No Daniel. You stop it!" Ian spat, while walking over to Dan. Ian had no tears in his eyes. Only anger."Don't tell me what to do, Kabra! Amy's dead and you seem to not even care! YOU LOVED HER AND YOU DON'T CARE!" Dan yelled.Ian only rolled his eyes. "It seems your memory is a little unclear, Daniel. Have you forgotten that Tolliver is also in that house?""SO?! WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!" Dan bellowed.Ian sighed. "It means, that either Amy or Evan got shot. One of them is alive, for sure. Or maybe both of them are alive."Dan got it now. There was only one bullet fired. There are two or more people in the house. Amy actually might not be dead. *** "Evan?" Amy questioned. The teenage boy that was holding a gun in a very dangerous angle just smirked."Hello, Amy dearest." Evan said, in such a cold voice that it sent shivers down Amy's spine. "I'm oh so glad you found me.""Evan," Amy whimpered. "Please . . . put the gun down.""I'm afraid I can't do that darling. You see, it's a Vesper's duty." Evan explained.Amy gave a terrified chuckle. "Evan, there is no need - wait, what?" My boyfriend is a Vesper? She thought. No, this is some kind of misunderstanding."Evan you are very funny, but this is no time for jokes." Amy said.Evan sighed. "Honey, I'm not kidding. Vesper 3 to be exact. If you don't believe me, you can ask Bob and Bill." "Bob and Bill?" Amy asked. Then, she felt two strong hands grab her and throw her on the ground. Vespers. How could she no notice them?"Yes, they are very helpful and like to obey." Evan explained. He turned to Amy. "Now Ames, you see, I don't want to see anyone get hurt - for now - so let's make this easy. You tell me where the ring is, and you get to stay alive." "I will never give you any information about the ring, you Vesper." Amy spat."Oh, kitty likes to scratch." Evan teased. "Let's try that again. Where is Gideon's ring?" "I will never tell you." Amy hissed."Suit yourself." BANG!Amy felt exhilirating pain in her left shoulder. Red liquid kept flowing out of her body staining her clothes. Blood. Amy tried to scream, but the pain made it impossible. Evan stepped closer to her. "I'm going to ask you again. Where. Is. The. Ring."Her pride got the best of her. "Find it."BANG! Now it was her left arm, bleeding so much it was frightening to even look at it. The pain was at a new level."Don't get smart with me Amy Cahill. Or you might die a very tragic death." The Vesper boy warned.Amy glared at him."Now, tell me where the ring is, sweetie." Evan coaxed.Amy thought for a moment. Die a hero's death or live coward's life? She made her choice. Amy Cahill will sacrifice herself in order to keep Gideon's ring safe. She will sacrifice herself for the entire universe.Amy looked Evan straight in the eye. "Never." BANG!Her right foot was shot. Wait, my right foot? That only causes me extreme pain! That can't kill me, Amy thought. "You shot my right foot, idiot. That won't kill me." Amy stated weakly."Oh, I know. I was thinking of even a slower death. More pain. You do know how your mommy died, don't you?" Evan said."Don't you bring my mother into this." Amy breathed. "Don't tell me what to do." Evan barked. Then, he pulled out a small cardboard box. A matchbox."What are you doing?" Amy questioned. She was absolutlely terrified. Anything but fire, anything but fire . . ."Well sweet pea, I am about to set this room on fire and let you burn in the flames." Explained Evan. He lit a match on fire and then looked at Amy. "I hope you have a great reunion with Grace and your mom." Then he dropped the match. "Goodbye, Ames." Evan said while stepping out of the room with his sidekicks Bob and Bill. He locked the door behind him and never looked back.Amy couldn't get up and run because of the pain her bullet wounds gave.I'll see you soon, Grace, mom, Irina, Mac . . . she thought. Wait, what did I just think? I never think like that!Amy wondered what had gotten over her. Instead of admitting defeat, she should be trying to get herself out of the fire! She must look on the positive side. Surely, someone must have heard the gunshots. Maybe help is on it's way. Grace taught me many things. And one of her most common sayings was, 'Never give up.'Amy looked to her right. Fire. She looked to her left and saw the same thing. Those horrid, evil, mocking flames. It seemed like they were taunting her. Telling her that she would die. But Amy knew better. She was going to survive.Amy took a deep breath and started screaming. She let out all her pain, anger, and terror. After about two minutes, Amy heard it. Foot steps. "I'm here! Help!" She croaked. "Please! I'm in here! Come here!"But whoever was inside the house, must've not heard her, because that mysterious person turned around and walked pass the door.Amy's eyes were wide with horror. "No! Come back!" Croaked the Madrigal. "Come back! I'm in here! Come back! Please!"Amy burst into tears. Maybe this is the end. *** Ian was inside the house searching desperatly for Amy.Where was she? He checked every room and no sign of her anywhere. I hope she is alright, Ian thought. Finally, he reached the final door. She might be in here. Ian was about to open the door, when he heard something in one of the other rooms. Voices. He ran down the hallway, and kicked open the door. Lovely Amy wasn't in that room. It was Evan Tolliver climbing out the window with two big men."Tolliver!" Ian screamed.Evan whipped his head around so fast, Ian thought he might have broken his neck. Evan grinned evily at Ian."Oh, hello Kabra. Looking for Amy?" He asked.Ian was taken aback by surprise. "What did you do to her?""Fired a few bullets. At her. Then let her burn in a fire." Evan said, like it was the most humane thing to do to a innocent girl. "Good luck, finding her. She might be dead already." Then, before Ian could reply, Evan jumped out the window. Ian couldn't believe what he just heard. He raced back down the hallway, to the room he hasn't checked yet. He started to open the door but realized it was locked. Ian let some nasty words escaped his mouth. Just break down the door, he told himself. With one forceful kick, the Kabra boy was able to get in the room.Immeaditly, Ian wished he didn't. The fire was everywhere. And he couldn't see Amy. For one terrible second, he thought she was dead. But then he heard a soft, beautiful voice, humming a sad tune. He followed the noise and found his dear, beloved, Amy lying in a pool of blood. Her eyes were glassy and unconsintrated, and she looked like she was in a diffrent world. "Amy!" Ian shouted. Slowly, Amy's head turned towards him. Her vision seemed to clear. "Ian," she whispered. Then Amy seemed to realize what she was saying, because her forest-green eyes widened and she was attempting to move towards Ian. "Ian!" She gasped.Ian started picking her up. "Amy, we were all so worried. You - " But he was cut off by a piercing scream coming from Amy."Careful . . . wound . . . arm . . . shoulder . . . foot . . . " She breathed. Ian noticed the blood on Amy's clothes and realized that he must have accidently touched her wounds."I'm sorry." He gently said. The fire was closing in on the couple. Any minute now, they would be sucked into the burning flames. "Amy, just hold on, try to relax, because I am going to get you out of here."Ian easily picked up Amy, and ran out of the room. He ran down the hallway and down the stairs. Ian thought about only one thing: getting out of the house. Ian was very close to the door now. But he was so tired. You're almost there, mate, he told himself. Almost there. Just a couple of feet now. But Ian felt himself slowing down, trying to catch his breath.Stop it, Ian thought. You have to make it out alive. Do it for youself. Do it for Amy.Ian looked at the girl in his arms. She was crying and her face was twisted with pain and agony. Ian vowed he would get Amy out of here. She deserves to live. When he reached the door, he summoned all his strength to open it. An instant breeze of cool air hit him square in the face. We made it, he thought. We made it.Well, that is my writing pompt! I hope you enjoyed it, please give me constructive critisism. Thanks!

It's cool that you make the time to read all the prompt responses! I also like to act and write. One of the authors should come to Boston at some point, that's where Amy and Dan are supposed to live. :D
HERE'S THE PROMPT:
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. She wen up sme stairs and called out again. No answer. She went to the top and walked over to Evan's room.
"Evan?" She whispered. Amy and Dan were in Boston for a short time. They went with everyone else to research at the library. Evan said that he would stay at the house, just in case. They hadn't seen him yet and got worried. Amy leaned against the door. "Are you there?" She waited. No response. "I'm coming in!" She started to open the door.
"Mho! Mamy, wont wom min!" A voice came from inside. She heard some noise. She leaned closer and could just make out a voice...
"Tie his gag tighter, Casper!" Amy almost jumped. She walked back a few steps, then yelled as loud as she could and ran at the door.
"Ah!" Casper jumped back anddropped Evan's gag.
"Amy! Go get the others! Or mall mine won won." His last words were muffle again, by the gag. Amy leaped at Casper, knocking him to the ground. When she turned around, Dan was at *Chenneye. Once he had the chance, Casper raced to the window and ran out. *Chenneye still followed, but beforejumping to the street she turned back.
"Trust me, we WILL get back at you. You better watch your back...we'll strike when you least expect it." And with that said, she leaped to the ground. Amy then realized how heavily she was breathing. Se took some deep breathes, then joined Dan who was already helping Evan untie himself. After Evan was untied Amy gave him a hug and sat on the bed.
"Maybe you sh-should take training or something...or guards...or make sure a Cahill's in the house..." She was muttering random things. Evan laughed.
"I'm hoping I won't come across them again." They went downstairs and explained what happaned to the others.
THE END
*I don't know if I spelled that right...

"Oh no. . . I knew it was a bad idea letting him come over," Amy murmered to herself while creeping down the stairs.
When she reached the bottom aloud "BOO!" was shouted in her right ear. Amy shrieked in pure horror.
"Got you," a voice.
Amy turned to the voice only seeing Evan, she was really relieved.

I LOVE YOUR SIG, PETER!!! Lol
I have re-read Dead of Night and discovered a whole mess of things that I didn't catch before. Whether it be Missing Commas or misspelled words...I got them all :D
NOTE: I'm still just a teenager, so some of this might be wrong...however my friends all call me 'Human spell-check'...so I'm pretty good :D
PAGE NUMBER - Error
8 - Last sentence: '...he tapped an app on the tiny screen. And he began typing a code...' That period should be a comma.
15 - 'The initials of his long-dead father, Arthur Josiah Trent.' I think a (;) would be more appropriate than a period.
31 - 'That's why you become a Madrigal' Why I become a Madrigal? My grammar book says the second you use the word 'You', your story becomes second-person.
'H' - "Bats bats bats bats bats," *Gasp!* Cheyyenne! Don't you know there's supposed to be commas between words when you say them multiple times???
75 - 'She was talking to...what's his name? ...Tolliver.' I think it should be 'She was talking to - what's his name? - Tolliver.'
89 - "Yes, Saladin, you're here, bully for you." I feel like there should be a period between Here and Bully for you.
92-93 - I just wanna say how much I love this scene with Luna. She reminds me here so much of my own amazingly sweet Grandma, which just adds to her creepiness. BRAVO!!!
93 - AND YOU REMEMBERED THE '*' IN *NSYNC!!! I had a book - er, I think it was a book - that forgot the '*' and I got really mad XD
95 - Ah...Italian. I speak very little, but it looks perfect to me :D
105 - DAN!!! This page was so...creepy!!! It gave me chills! Great job!
107 - 'But she didn't not like the feeling' ...That's correct and all, but everytime I read it, my brain either cancels out 'Didn't' or 'not' so the message changes. Consider changing. Or, put the 'Not' in italics!
119 - 'Dan nearly feel out of the car, laughing' There shouldn't be a comma there. The comma makes it 'Dan nearly fell out of the car plus he was laughing. No comma specifies that the reason he almost fell out was because he was laughing.
122 - How dare Dan mock The Beatles???
134 - "I'd say he misses his mom. But I don't think Isabel is missable.' NO PERIOD! Comma! Haha.
141 - 'eye to eye for the first time since the gauntlet' Shouldn't Gauntlet be capitalized? That was the name of the place, after all.
159 - See above...Gauntlet wasn't capitalized.
160 - I love Ian's GPS LOL
Vesper One's Message - Dissappointed in Vesper One...'Hello Cahills!' Hey, Vespy? It's ''Hello, Cahills!'
Like I said, I'm just a teenager, so you probably will correct me on half this stuff, but I hope this helps you in some way!

Time to break the habit of a lifetime.
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. She couldn't believe that she'd been tricked into believing him.
"Sorry, Ames." Evan said, appearing at the top. "But I'm afraid you've outlived your usefulness."
"I trusted you." Amy replied. "And... And... And now you've killed Dan." She said, starting to sob. She's found him in the Games Room, Wii Remote still in his hand.
"Not just Dan." He smirked. "But Ian, Sinead, Hamilton, Jonah, all your friends." Evan said, and shot her. He ran outside onto the balcony and jumped up, reaching a rope ladder attatched to an airborne helicopter.

Vesper One smiled. The Cahills were dead. Vesper Three had seen to that. However, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to go horribly wrong...
•••••
Saladin woke with a fright. The last gunshot had scared the poor cat. Saladin padded along cautiously, aware that something was wrong. The cat came across Amy first, still alive, only just. With a scared "Mrrp" the cat started shaking violently. Saladin started to morph, and 20 seconds later, standing there was Grace Cahill.

What would you do if a pair of twenty-year-olds twins came up to you and demanded Gideon's ring? (I don't know how old Casper and Cheyenne are.) Hope you answer :)

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. Amy slowly climbed the stairs. She shined the beam of the flashlight all around her. Suddenly her light went out and some one grabbed her from behind. She started to scream, but the attacker covered her mouth with a rag. She then smelled a sweet odor and her vision started to go black. "Evan?" Amy whisperd as she started to go unconscious from the chloroform.
