This week I brought The Dead of Night to Hollywood and saw tons of movie stars! Okay, they all were on billboards. But I did really meet a surprise star, in person, at my next location, Salt Lake City! And I spent a lot of time on freeways. Which made me very, very hungry. More on that later — plus statues, chocolate, a new writing prompt, and a reveal of my mystery location from the last post!

But first, what a blast I had reading your prompt responses. I’m impressed by your imaginations, the improvements you’ve made as writers, and the great support you’re showing one another. What an awesome community!

Last time I promised Q&A. To those who asked if I could visit their town/city: the tour is packed with more than 75 events, including tons of school visits. It’s all been tightly planned and organized for months by my awesome publisher, Scholastic, and it’s posted here. But I can visit anywhere (yes, including Canada, where I’ve been twice recently) on a school visit — just have your teacher of librarian check out my Author Visits page.

CheerfulSeeker1: What was the first book you ever wrote and when was it published?
A book of puzzles and games called (oddly enough) Puzzles and Games, in 1983.

OnyxTiger45: Do you read all the responses to the story prompts personally or does someone else?
I personally read them all. (And I hope someone else reads them too — lots of someone elses!)

FightingCobra225: But what do you like to read?
Mystery, historical fiction, basically any novel with really good writing. And I make sure to read a lot of nonfiction too.

DarkTiger40: Out of all of the 39 Clues and Cahills vs Vespers books you've written so far, which character is the hardest to write about and why?
DaintyOfficer1: Was it hard writing about Jake Rosenbloom in The Dead of the Night? I think he's kind of a complicated character.
I’ll answer both Dark and Dainty: yes. Jake. I worked hardest on his character for The Dead of Night. Once I figured him out, he became great fun to write.

DancingTeam1: I want to be a writer and I'm good at it, but I feel like I'm pulling away from my friends, which I don't want to do. What should I do?
Maybe you need a little private time for your ideas. Take the time. But make sure to be kind to your friends and let them know you’ll be back. They’ll be happy you do.

OnyxWolf91: When you write stories, what process do you use? Do you write everything down first, or do you carefully plan it?
Yes, I outline my books very carefully before I start writing.

AmethystButterfly167: Do you have any pets? What is your favorite color? What is your absolute favorite food?
Not since the guinea pig died, blue, and chocolate.

DragonAdventure181: If you could meet any character from the 39 clues or the Cahills Vs. Vespers, who would it be and why?
Buffy the dog, from Book 3, who fascinates me inexplicably.

AgentCourier10: You are kidnapped by unknown Vespers, and transported to a desert island. Using your wits and a few coconuts, you are able to contact the Attleboro crew, and the Cahills. They agree to rescue you, but, can only send one agent. Out of the eight agents (Ian, Sinead, Amy, Dan, Evan, Hamilton, Jonah, and Saladin) who would you want to rescue you, and why?
Saladin? Really? Let me think about this ...

BronzeEagle168: What inspired you to become a writer? What was your favourite book when you were small?
I loved reading Jack London. His stories, which took place in the Far North, were so vivid I could feel freezing cold in the dead of summer. I wanted to do what he did!

DragonChallenger20: What is your advice for some who has started eight novels, but can't seem to finish? I mean getting started is easy for me. But finishing? You've got to be kidding. How do you handle a writer's creative block?
Chocolate, mostly. But really, the only “cure” for writer’s block is to sit there until you finish. Time is your friend. Take it. It could very well be you haven’t found the story that really connects deeply with you yet. But I would recommend picking out one of your stories and trying to outline it — just a brief summary of what will happen, right to the end of the book. Do a couple of drafts of that outline, and then try again. It will feel amazing to finish something.

InventorLavender1: I know a lot of people are asking you what it's like to be a writer, etc, etc. But I know that you were also an actor. Had being an actor helped you be an author at any time?
Definitely! Especially with dialog. When you’re an actor you get such a strong sense of storytelling and the economy of language.

EkaterinaDragon327: When did you want to become a writer?
Early on. I don’t even remember not wanting to be a writer!

InfiltrateRattlesnake1: Is it true that there is a movie on the clue hunt set to be released?
DreamWorks is working on it. We know they have a screenplay but the movie hasn’t been cast, so we’re sitting tight, waiting to hear.

BearDeciphering2: Why do you almost ALWAYS wear a red hat? Is it because you're uncomfortable being partly bald?
Well, the hat isn’t always red! And I recommend being partly bald — it’s VERY comfortable. But you need to protect your comfortable head against the sun.

BreakingHurricane5: In the dead of night, you forgot a comma between Nellie said she sacrificed stuff like food, her iPod tukey and having to listen to Natalie. You forgot the comma in-between turkey and iPod.
No, that was done correctly. “Cold turkey” is not an actual turkey. It’s an expression that means “suddenly or without preparation.”

SteelBone2: Why is it that everyone's High School/Collage pictures from waaaaayyyyy back in your day make them look hillarious?
Ha! Believe it or not, yours will too!

OK, DRUMROLL, PLEASE ... Remember that mysterious breathtaking waterfall? To those who figured it out: your research skills humble me. Here’s the reveal.

Although I was sad to leave the Pacific Northwest, my pals in Southern California went out of their way to make me feel welcome, including the Aeolian Elementary School ...

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/LA_Aeolian_Elementary_School.JPG

The presentation was sponsored by Mrs. Nelson’s Books, which was an amazing place to visit, as always.

I got another great welcome at Barnes & Noble in Huntington Beach, where the bright 7:00 P.M. sun felt like midday.

Someone in this crowd knows how I feel about chocolate — and look what she presented to me! (Did I mention how much I love being an author? Let me count the ways ... )

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/LA_girl_with_candy_sign.JPG

Like my HB cap? It stands for Huntington Beach. And no, I didn’t eat all the chocolate. I had to be alert the next day, for Lincoln Elementary School. I didn’t cownt on having to travel to the gym on the back of a red bovine.  Unherd of! The school provided an udderly wonderful welcome sign, and the enthusiasm of the kids was quite mooving. I milked this visit for all it was worth.

Although they did not have a lion statue, they more than made up for it with this:

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/LA_giant_lion_painting.jpg

As if that wasn’t enough excitement, I met a bright, enthusiastic, and warmly welcoming crowd later that day at the Chamlian Armenian School.

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/LA_Armenian_school_event.JPG

All those presentations get a cowpoke mighty hungry. So I galloped into the Eagle Rock neighborhood to find some good grub. When I discovered a huge Filipino community, I let out a YEE-HAH! Our books have many fans in the Philippines — and you know who you are, so here’s a mabuhay to you:

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/LA_eating_bibingka.jpg

Between the chocolate and the bibingka (a delicious type of rice cake from the Philippines), I was energized to take on Salt Lake City.  (And, naturally, I switched caps.)

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/SLC_SL_hat_and_snow_capped_mountains.JPG

Once I started eating, there was no stopping me. In Utah my book tour became a food hunt.

In between meals I visited more schools, hosted by the amazing King’s English bookstore ...

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/SLC_Canyon_Ranch_school.JPG

...after which I went right back to, well, you know. (This restaurant, the oldest in Salt Lake City, had an entire Thanksgiving meal in a sandwich —turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce!)

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/IMG_5207.jpg

After that, I needed a long hike. Salt Lake City has some breathtaking views and monster hills. It also has ... STATUES! As always, they taught me well and graciously took all my advice.

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/SLC_warrior_statue.jpg

After running into Roland Smith in Portland, I hoped to find Linda Sue Park or David Baldacci in L.A. Alas, no such luck. But there was a friendly chap at my hotel in Salt Lake City, who was reading one of my favorite books ...

Well, you’ll never believe who this guy really was! (Actually, you probably caught on before I did.) Now we have a mutual fan club.

http://the39clues.s3.amazonaws.com/others/2012/04/26/SLC_Peter_and_Chris_DLacey.JPG

Next stop, a couple of days in NYC and then Houston! Okay, for the next blog post, I will have a special challenge for all of you, a real 39 CLUES MESSAGE BOARD EXCLUSIVE!

I can’t tell you about it yet, but I promise it will be fun! For now, a great big shout-out to ALL of you from around the world who have followed me on this incredible journey. Good to have you with me.

And, before I forget, back by popular demand, here is the newest writing prompt:

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.

Hey, nice chocolate banner. I have a question for you:
Have you read any books of other authors of the 39 Clues series, for example, Rick Riordan? Which one did you like the most?

As for the writing prompt, here goes:

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. "Evan? Are you there?" she called again and ran upstairs to find him lying on the floor, unconscious. She stifled a scream and went over to check for injuries. She was shaken up pretty badly.

                                                                 ***
"How did this happen?" asked Sinead who looked peaky herself. Amy was sitting outside the hospital room in which Evan was admitted. Sinead was sitting beside her and Ian was kneeling in front of her holding a napkin. "The V-V-Vespers att-tt-tacked him and I-I-I didn't know about-t-t it and then I h-h-heard him shout and he had f-f-fainted ." replied Amy sobbing. Ian looked at her for a moment, concerned, and then said "But why did the Vespers come to attack Evan? He is not much of a threat- I mean, they should be targeting Amy or Dan. They didn't even look for Amy, did they?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Amy shook her head. "But what would they want from Evan? He is not even a Cahill. He is just helping us."
"AMY! I've got some top secret information." shouted Dan, appearing suddenly, with Saladin walking behind him haughtily. He pulled Amy aside and whispered something in her ear. Amy looked at Dan incredulously and said, "No, Dan. That just can't be true." she turned towards Ian and said "Ian, please tell me what Dan said wasn't true." "But what did Daniel say?" he asked.
Amy took a deep breath and replied "Dan told me that you have written in your diary that", she whispered in his ear, "your mom is Vesper 1."
"DAN! You are absolutely NOT allowed to read MY diary." said Ian, going red. He knew what more Dan must have told her.
The nurse came just then and said,"the patient is about to wake up. You may go in twos."
Amy dashed for the door and before anyone could follow Ian went in. Dan smirked and went to sit down beside Sinead and Saladin.

                                                                    ***
"Ian, you didn't?" said Amy half-amused half-guilty. Ian nodded and hung his head. "Awwwww, Ian." she said and hugged Ian.
Evan voice cut through the silence. "Amy?"

So, that's that.

Wow! I know that there are many Filipinos in other countries, but I did not expect that you'll go over there to eat a Filipino delicacy! You've said mabuhay, too! Good gracious! You should really visit to the Philippines to meet your fans (including me hehe) and eat Filipino foods! We even have another version of a chocolate drink here, which is called tablea, but unfortunately, I only have a chance to drink some when Christmas comes. :D

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. Evan knew what she was calling for. " Love you Mom. Bye" Evan said into the phone and hung up. When he went downstairs though he saw Amy's hands covered in blood and a Vesper lying dead on he floor. " Ames..." Evan started to say when Amy interrupted him saying " Evan I had to fight for survival and I killed Casper." Amy said. Oh God thought Evan. He couldn't trust Amy, Dan was kidnapped and Ian and Sinead were dead. I am next Evan thought. Now he couldn't help it though when he threw a knife at Amy and hit her heart. He then took that knife and stabbed himself in the chest. His last word were " I... am... Vesper... Two...".

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.
"Evan!" She called again beginning her trip up the metal steps, her ankle ached from her fall from the balcony in the Lume Ville Cafe, she knew it was most likely broken, but she couldn't bear the thought of Evan being captured.
She came to a matal door where she found Jonah and Hamilton on the cold floor, she began shacking Ian but he was out cold.
"Please!" She called out in fear as she heard the shouts of the Vespers who have found their way around her trap and into the stairwell. "Wake up!"
"Is it time for my ice bath...?" Hamilton groaned pulling himself up and dusting himself off.
"Ian's hurt, and Evan.... Evan is...." She couldn't finish, what was he? Dead? Captured? Or worse?

Thank you so much for answering my question and responding to my story!! :D That totally made my day!! :) Ooooh, sorry to hear about the guinea pig. :( Hahaha, I had a feeling chocolate would be your answer! WHOO-HOO!!!!! I got the waterfall right!!! *Has a dance party* Oh my goodness! I looove that statue!! I see the Salt Lake Temple behind you!!!! Wow, that is alot of yummy looking food! ;D As for the prompt, here goes:

Amy Cahill stood in front of her mirror, trying to decide what to wear. She was going out with Evan tonight, and wanted to look good. She tried on several shirts, finally settling on a flowy green blouse. It complimented her eyes, afterall. She headed down the stairs, and into the kitchen where Dan was laying on the floor unconcious.

"DAN!" Amy screamed. She rushed to his side and cradled his head in her hands. "Dan, wake up!" She checked for a pulse. At least he was still alive.
      "Uuuugh . . . " Dan moaned, coming to.
      "Dan! Dan, what happened?"
      "Vespers . . . took . . . Evan . . . " He grunted, still disoriented. No. Amy thought, This is NOT happening.
      "Where did they take him?"

"Upstairs." How had she not heard any of this? Right at that moment, they heard the sound of breaking glass that sent chills up Amy's spine.
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. Tears had started to blurr her vision. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.
She took the stairs two at a time, and ran instinctivly for the Command Center. She plowed into the room, only to find it empty, window shattered. Taped to one of the computer screens was a note flapping in the breeze. She walked numbly to the computer, knowing what to expect.
Well, well, well. It seems your security needs some upgrading. You will do everything I ask if you ever want to see your precious boyfriend again.  -V1
Amy read the note several times before the sobbing set in.

I made you some signatures!! I hope you like them!!! :D

"Evan!" Ammy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.
"Evan!" she screamed again. This time there was a muffled noise. Amy got worried.
"Dan, can youcome quickly" she asked her brother.
"No, I am playing with my Playstation!" came the reply.
"Dan!" she said again this time more threatening.
"Fine, what is it" Dan said annoyed as he came out out of the living room.
"Evan is in trouble" Amy said.
"So?" Dan said "Let him die"
"Dan I am going to kill you" Amy yelled.
"OOH, OH." Dan said and kept quiet.
Slowly Amy kreeped up the stairs, Dan following close behind. The stairs where creking and Amy was feeling very paranoid at the moment. Finally they arrived.
"Evan!" Amy said agiain this time more quieter. They turned around a corner and saw Evan lying on the floor with ropes around his feet and hands. With tisuue stuffed into his mouth. Evan was frantically shaking his head. But Amy just ran to him. Dan was trying to hold her back but whe ripped herself loose of his grip.
Too late she noticed it was a trap.

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. "Evan!" she screamed again "What? Is It? Who got hurt? Did Dan try to do a backflip and break something again?" Evan questiones as he took two steps  down the stairs at a time to get to her. "Sp sp spi SPIDER!" Amy screamed as she pointed at a black spider crawling up the wall. "AHHH" Evan screamed louder and higher than Amy did. Not only that but he also jumped up, flung his hands up, and ran away. Oh my hero Amy thought as she jumped ontop of a chair in an attempt to get as far away from it as possible

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. Just the black emptiness. She was alone. And then the others showed up and took her away, mindless zombies of her friends, led by Ian. And there was Evan's corpse. She trembled after she woke up. It was a bad dream, a bad dream... but Evan was gone and Ian was a Vesper. There wasn't much more time to fret. As soon as the drop was made, the challenges would end. For now. CJ was such an asset. Spy and comforter all in one. What Amy didn't know was what the other Cahills were planning.

                                                                                                                      *

The operation was set for tonight. Argentina. Presicely 7:10. Enough time for Amy and Dan to be a litle bit farther from the Vespers. It all came down to her. The Raven. She had a plan. It wouldn't be viewed as an attack at first, and there would be no lockdown. She was using a common weapon in the Madrigals Dan's age: blow gel. A gel explosive. Highly dangerous, but very useful. And so it would begin. 5:40. One hour remaining. All she could do was wait. Nobody could hurt her now.

The explosives went off, destroying captive security everywhere. Evan and the hostages had only five minutes to wait. A second stash blew up, but the sirens never got through. The perimeter security and lockdown systems were shot. Then all hell broke loose. She joined her battalion and went into war.

                                                                                                                      *

What Annie wasn't expecting was Casper shooting Christie. The bulet was less then an inch away from her heart. She can survive anything! She had a bullet millimeters from her brain stem! She survived a war zone! Annie's mind screamed, but she picked up Christie and took her back. The overlooked little redhead took CJ back to the jet. The sparrow saved The Raven.

It was an hour before CJ woke up. CJ - Christina Jane Yilmaz. Annie kept CJ from removing the oxygen mask on her face and CJ's fingers, so long and skinny, formed the words she couldn't speak. The words that Annie - the sparrow, Annabeth Jane McIntyre, Aj - longed to hear roll off her tongue, resonate her soft, sweet voice in the air. And then they touched down, light as mist, in Attlebro. CJ and AJ carried Evan, Fiske, and Nellie inside. It was all over.

                                                                                                                    *

Amy couldn't belive her eyes. Evan, whole and unharmed, right in front of her! Nellie, who had tried to give her and Dan a hug while laying down. Fiske, his arms a safe refuge. And CJ, smiling in her odd way, half sweet and half serious. It was all over. They laughed and smiled as the Sun rose - a perfect ending.

First off, let me say that your signature is beautiful. It's epic and I love it, XD. Where'd you even come up with that? Anyway, I was just curious, where do you come up with the prompts? Just off the top of your hea- cap?
XD, anyway, huh, this'll be a harder prompt, considering Amy shrieking wouldn't work if they were s'posed to be quiet and all.....
_

_

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. "Evan!" she tried again and still, no answer came.

The wooden stairs were old and creaky. Dust coated it in a thick layer, in which dead bugs and dust bunnies resided. Stamped clearly in the dust, were now shoe prints, leading to the top of the stairs in this small, dark house.

Amy sighed and looked up the stairs in worry. She couldn't see the top as the light only reached so far. As far as she knew, Evan could be up there, dead or at least unconscious and she wouldn't know anything about it. She bit her lip, as she often does and pondered what she was going to do.

"I knew I should have gone up there with him!" she muttered, exasperated. He had said once he found what they were looking for he would come down again. He insisted on goiing up first.

Before she  could even say anything or take action, a loud bang and a shout of pain was clearly audible as it rang through the small house. It was Evan's. Things crashed to the floor and Amy dashed up the steps, hoping she wasn't too late.

"Evan!" Amy called, kicking open an old wooden door located at the top of the steps. The door cracked in half and slammed to the ground, revealing the room inside.

Evan was not in sight from where she stood. Instead, she saw an old bookshelf, coated with bugs and dust, along with books so old, the end of the pages were yellowing. Over to the left was a window, glass was shattered around it on the floor, collecting dust. Wooden boards, old and moldy, were laying on the floor beside the window as well. Nails stuck out of them, bent at odd angles, as if they had been pried out forcefully.

Outside the window, she could just make out a large tree. The moonlight illuminated the room with a dim glow.

Amy stepped inside the room cautiously, looking around for any sort of living being.  Nothing. As she walked further in, she noticed that, on the floor near a bookcase that was in shadows, lie a body, face down. She recognized it immediately and immediately rush over to his side.

"Evan!" She croucheed down and rolled him ono his back. A groan was audible, confirming that he was still alive.  Amy breathed a sigh of relief. From his nose, a trickle of blood ran down his face, and his forehead had some scratches and bumps, but other than that, she didn't recognize any major injuries. "I'm so glad you're alive," she murmured, relieved.

One question had not be solved however. Who had done this? Just as Amy was about to twist around, a hand gripped her shoulder and a cold blade was pressed against the back of her neck.

The sound of licking lips and then a cold, rough voice like steel. "Don't move."

That was the last thing she heard before everything went black.

End.
_
So then, hope you like it! :)

Ciao. Nice to meet you~ I love to draw, dance, write, and certainly read! It's my favorite past time~ Obviously I love 39 Clues or I wouldn't be here.

Janus for the win!

Cool!

"Hamilton, can you go get the door?" Sinead asked from the kitchen. With a nod he got up and headed for the door. "Evan! could you please keep that thing away from me?” Ian complained from upstairs. If those two don't stop fighting soon I will make it happen, I thought. Just then I heard banging coming from the stairs. I ran over to the sound to see what had happened. One look and I knew exactly what happened.
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.

I was enjoying this moment very much until was interrupted. "Yo chill. No need for hatin'. As Miley Cyrus says 'Build a bridge and get over it'!" Jonah, the famous pop star, complained. "I will never get over it!" I said still beside Evan. Ian just rolled his eyes and walked away. "IAN KABRA! GET BACK HERE THIS INSTANT!" I yelled. I heard Hamilton, Jonah and Ian laughing in the background. "CUT!" Yelled the camera man. "That was good. But Ian you need to be more convincing, Evan, that was perfect!, Amy, you have a good set of lungs, Jonah, awesome as always." he complemented.

Love and loyalty run deeper than blood...

OK.Here goes.
"Evan!"Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer."Evan! Are you up there?"Amy sprinted up the stairs. She entered the comm. center,to find nobody in there except a sleeping Saladin. She saw an envelope.Labeled "Amy" in Evan's manuscript."Amy,"she read."since you kissed Jake when we found out where the hostages were, you probably don't have feelings for me anymore.I'm sorry,Ames.See you at school.-Evan."
Amy ran out the front door.Time to pay a visit.
She rang the doorbell.Evan's little sister,Mallory, answered. She was about Dan's age."Hey,Mallory.Is Evan home?""I haven't seen him all day."The 12-year-old replied."I found this note on his bed for you."Mallory handed her the note.
Amy ripped it open.It read,"Amy,I'm really sorry, but,I went out to free the hostages,...by myself. If the worst happens, don't forget me."
  "Thanks,Mallory."Amy ran out."Sinead,code black."

woho! another wrighting prompt! these are really fun! I got doing this as your POV from a thing we are doing at school. Hope you like it!

Peter Lerangis POV

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. She had heard him yell at her to go down the stairs. "Go down Amy!" Evan said. "I wont leave you!" She had clung on tightly to his side. "Amy, I love you. Goodbye." "NO!" Amy screamed. The Vespers threw Evan into the back deck and pushed Amy down the stairs into her living room. "Evan!" She yelled again. Nothing was in reply. She ran up the stairs to the back deck but he was no where. Gone. Amy didn't and couldn't want to believe he was gone. "Goodbye." She whisperd back. She turned around. I wasn't ready. I was busted. Amy's eyes widend. "PETER LERANGIS?" She shreaked. "H-How long have you been there?" "Um, actually, me and my fellow agents have been, um, spying on you ever scents you have started the clue hunt." "Wait, I thought you were on your tour." "Well, I was really tracking down the Vespers. The schools and bookstore visits though where just for fun. Amy if you don't mind, I think I know where Evan might be." Amy's eyes widend. "Really? Where?" "Let me help you find him. Can you take an extra person with you and Dan trying to fight the Vespers?" "Sure! It wouldn't hurt! Now, where did you think Evan was again." I smiled and whispered it in her ear. "Oh." Amy said and we where off.

Well, I guess I'll try a prompt. Everyone keeps killing people or having it be a serious situation.
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. She frowned and checked her radio. It still wasn’t working; she’d have to talk to Sinead about that. Amy hefted her bulky gun and crept up the stairs. She wasn’t going to risk yelling again. Once at the top, Amy inched down the hallway, systematically checking each room. All empty. She ducked into the last room, a large ballroom. As she walked around the perimeter of the room Evan appeared from another direction. Amy sighed in relief. “Where were you?” she hissed, “We’re going to get caught. We have to win this” Evan grimaced, “Sorry Ames. I was hit.” He stumbled forward, displaying the red splashed across his side. Amy groaned, “Evan...” Evan lowered himself to the floor; his eyes flicking over her shoulder. Amy understood quickly and dropped to the floor. As she rolled behind a column she heard the familiar, defeating splattering sound as it hit the floor where she had stood. “Come on!” she muttered. Amy checked her bullet supply and returned fire. A cry from the distance brought a smile to her face; she was evening the numbers. Suddenly a soft voice spoke in her hear as pain exploded in her side, “Got you, love.”
Amy dropped her gun and turned to meet Ian, “They were the distraction?” Ian grinned, “I suggest you get a new partner for the next round. Face it, Amy. Evan always gets caught.” Amy wiped the blue paint from her side, “Its good practice to learn to work together. I’m not changing partners.” She stepped from behind the column, “Who’d I hit?” Jonah guiltily tried to hide the pink paint on his leg. “Who won over all?” Amy asked. Dan popped up and waved his gun, “Team blue!! I like having Ian as my partner!” “I want to change to team red,” Hamilton complained. Sinead rolled her eyes, “Then who is going to be on team blue with Dan and Ian. Jonah and I are doing fine alone.” “We need two more players to even out the teams,” Jonah remarked, “To bad no one else wants to practice with us.”
I love paintball!

In our family, you don't get a childhood.

OMG!!  Luv the video! I have a good one for this promt....
"Evan!" Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no reply. She was worried now. She had called Evan 5 times but Evan hadn't answered. She ran as fast as she could. She went to the command center and saw both Sinead and Evan out cold on the floor. Her eyes widened. She bent over Sinead and checked her pulse. She also checked Evan. They were both alive, but out cold either from a huge shock, or someone had knocked them with a bat. She searched around and found a note. "I'm sorry, love, that I had to do that to our cousin and your boyfriend. They just wouldn't let me go to New York to withdraw money from my bank account. They should come to in about two hours." she read. She crumpled the piece of paper and decided to call Dan. No medical assistance to prevent questions.
Two hours later, Amy and Dan were next to the victims and waiting for them to get up. Amy saw Sinead's eyes flutter. Sinead sat up with a start. "What happened? Where's Evan? What the..." she bursted. Amy explained. "Oh now I remember our fight with Ian...not good at all...his mom is in New York..." she got up and sat in a chair while Amy and Dan's eyes widened. "His mother? New York? Wha?" blustered Dan. Soon enough, Evan got up and moaned. "How do we know we can trust him now?" he said. He layed down again. Amy was sure he was regretting something. She could see it on his face.

"Evan!" Amy shreiked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment but there was no answer. "Evan!" Amy shreiked again. Still there was no reply. A rapid pace suddenly devolped and you could here someone storming down the stairs. Who is that? Amy thought to herself, completely dumb-founded she shouted out Evan once more. A ding went off and Amy picked up her phone. Amy turned. Her back facing the stairs. She read the text repeatdely 'RUN'  was all it said. What did it mean? Amy suddenly realised the footsteps had stopped. She felt a the slight sensation of someone breathing against her back, then everything went black...

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.

“This is ridiculous! He said he was upstairs, and to call him when dinner was ready.” she thought

“Evan!” Still no answer. “Fine if he doesn’t want dinner then he can go without.”

Amy walked back to the dining room and sat down in her chair.

Upstairs, Evan waited with the others. He heard Amy calling his name, then he’d heard something else but couldn’t decipher what she’d said. He didn’t hear her coming to find him, and that’s what he was counting on her to do. If she didn’t he couldn’t spring the surprise. Dan crept up behind him.

“I don’t think she’s coming, dude.”

“That’s not good. We need her up here not down there.”

“Hang on a sec.”

Dan walked carefully in the dark over to Hamilton and Jonah. Evan could hear them whispering. “Alright, here’s the plan. Jonah and Hamilton will sneak out the window and to the front door. They’ll get her up here.”

“How?” said Evan

“Don’t know.”

“That’s awesome.” Evan said doubtfully Hamilton and Jonah stood next to Dan, watching Evan. “Well, get going! We need her up here not down there, and you two are our only hope.”

“Right!” The two turned and headed for the window.

Amy slumped in her chair. “He must have forgotten. Or maybe he’s getting something and couldn’t hear me? No, he wouldn’t have forgotten my birthday.” She sighed, and stood. She was walked past the front door towards her room when the door bell rang. She looked at the monitor at the upper right corner of the door. Jonah and Hamilton were standing on the porch. They seemed to be arguing about something. Hamilton looked at the camera, then back at Jonah. Amy shook her head, just what she needed, two angry cousins. She walked over and opened the door. Both young men snapped to attention. She stared at them.

“Um, hello Amy.” Hamilton cleared his throat. “We wanted to show—”

Jonah elbowed him in the ribcage, giving him a look. Hamilton glared at Jonah.

“Look guys, I’m not having a very good day and I would like to spend what little is left of it reading a book by a fire. So could you please spit out whatever it is you’re trying to say?”

“Sure um we just wanted to wish you a happy birthday and show you something.”

“Alright, where is this something?”

“It’s upstairs, Evan told us to give it to you.”

“Evan? Is he alright?”

“Oh yeah! He’s perfectly fine!” said Jonah “Meet us in the upstairs living room in 5 minutes.”

Jonah and Hamilton rushed inside and up the stairs.

“What on earth? Well alright, let’s see it’s,” Amy looked down at her watch. “6:45 now so, if I walk extra slow I will make it in 5 minutes.”

Amy made sure to take small slow steps as she climbed the stairs and walked down the hall. She found when she stopped in front of the door her legs ached from going so slow.

“I need to work out more.” She muttered

Amy reached for the door handle and opened the door, the lights were off, blinding her. She stepped inside and felt the wall for the switch. The light jerked on and multiple people yelled out

“Happy Birthday Amy!”

She blinked, trying to clear her vision. Jonah and Hamilton stood in the middle of the room, Dan, and the Kabra siblings stood in a corner nearby. Sinead and her brothers, Ted and Ned, stood at the light switch. Everyone was smiling, and wearing party hats, the table was full of food and a few presents sat on the ground beside the couch. A hand touched her shoulder, she turned and saw Evan’s smiling face.

“I hope this makes up for missing dinner.” He said

“Oh, Evan this is wonderful!”

Hopefully this will sufice for now! - MK
