This week I brought The Dead of Night to Hollywood and saw tons of movie stars! Okay, they all were on billboards. But I did really meet a surprise star, in person, at my next location, Salt Lake City! And I spent a lot of time on freeways. Which made me very, very hungry. More on that later — plus statues, chocolate, a new writing prompt, and a reveal of my mystery location from the last post! But first, what a blast I had reading your prompt responses. I’m impressed by your imaginations, the improvements you’ve made as writers, and the great support you’re showing one another. What an awesome community!Last time I promised Q&A. To those who asked if I could visit their town/city: the tour is packed with more than 75 events, including tons of school visits. It’s all been tightly planned and organized for months by my awesome publisher, Scholastic, and it’s posted here. But I can visit anywhere (yes, including Canada, where I’ve been twice recently) on a school visit — just have your teacher of librarian check out my Author Visits page.CheerfulSeeker1: What was the first book you ever wrote and when was it published?A book of puzzles and games called (oddly enough) Puzzles and Games, in 1983.OnyxTiger45: Do you read all the responses to the story prompts personally or does someone else?I personally read them all. (And I hope someone else reads them too — lots of someone elses!)FightingCobra225: But what do you like to read?Mystery, historical fiction, basically any novel with really good writing. And I make sure to read a lot of nonfiction too.DarkTiger40: Out of all of the 39 Clues and Cahills vs Vespers books you've written so far, which character is the hardest to write about and why?DaintyOfficer1: Was it hard writing about Jake Rosenbloom in The Dead of the Night? I think he's kind of a complicated character.I’ll answer both Dark and Dainty: yes. Jake. I worked hardest on his character for The Dead of Night. Once I figured him out, he became great fun to write.DancingTeam1: I want to be a writer and I'm good at it, but I feel like I'm pulling away from my friends, which I don't want to do. What should I do?Maybe you need a little private time for your ideas. Take the time. But make sure to be kind to your friends and let them know you’ll be back. They’ll be happy you do.OnyxWolf91: When you write stories, what process do you use? Do you write everything down first, or do you carefully plan it?Yes, I outline my books very carefully before I start writing.AmethystButterfly167: Do you have any pets? What is your favorite color? What is your absolute favorite food? Not since the guinea pig died, blue, and chocolate.DragonAdventure181: If you could meet any character from the 39 clues or the Cahills Vs. Vespers, who would it be and why?Buffy the dog, from Book 3, who fascinates me inexplicably.AgentCourier10: You are kidnapped by unknown Vespers, and transported to a desert island. Using your wits and a few coconuts, you are able to contact the Attleboro crew, and the Cahills. They agree to rescue you, but, can only send one agent. Out of the eight agents (Ian, Sinead, Amy, Dan, Evan, Hamilton, Jonah, and Saladin) who would you want to rescue you, and why?Saladin? Really? Let me think about this ... BronzeEagle168: What inspired you to become a writer? What was your favourite book when you were small?I loved reading Jack London. His stories, which took place in the Far North, were so vivid I could feel freezing cold in the dead of summer. I wanted to do what he did!DragonChallenger20: What is your advice for some who has started eight novels, but can't seem to finish? I mean getting started is easy for me. But finishing? You've got to be kidding. How do you handle a writer's creative block?Chocolate, mostly. But really, the only “cure” for writer’s block is to sit there until you finish. Time is your friend. Take it. It could very well be you haven’t found the story that really connects deeply with you yet. But I would recommend picking out one of your stories and trying to outline it — just a brief summary of what will happen, right to the end of the book. Do a couple of drafts of that outline, and then try again. It will feel amazing to finish something.InventorLavender1: I know a lot of people are asking you what it's like to be a writer, etc, etc. But I know that you were also an actor. Had being an actor helped you be an author at any time?Definitely! Especially with dialog. When you’re an actor you get such a strong sense of storytelling and the economy of language.EkaterinaDragon327: When did you want to become a writer?Early on. I don’t even remember not wanting to be a writer!InfiltrateRattlesnake1: Is it true that there is a movie on the clue hunt set to be released?DreamWorks is working on it. We know they have a screenplay but the movie hasn’t been cast, so we’re sitting tight, waiting to hear.BearDeciphering2: Why do you almost ALWAYS wear a red hat? Is it because you're uncomfortable being partly bald?Well, the hat isn’t always red! And I recommend being partly bald — it’s VERY comfortable. But you need to protect your comfortable head against the sun.BreakingHurricane5: In the dead of night, you forgot a comma between Nellie said she sacrificed stuff like food, her iPod tukey and having to listen to Natalie. You forgot the comma in-between turkey and iPod.No, that was done correctly. “Cold turkey” is not an actual turkey. It’s an expression that means “suddenly or without preparation.”SteelBone2: Why is it that everyone's High School/Collage pictures from waaaaayyyyy back in your day make them look hillarious?Ha! Believe it or not, yours will too!OK, DRUMROLL, PLEASE ... Remember that mysterious breathtaking waterfall? To those who figured it out: your research skills humble me. Here’s the reveal. Although I was sad to leave the Pacific Northwest, my pals in Southern California went out of their way to make me feel welcome, including the Aeolian Elementary School ...
The presentation was sponsored by Mrs. Nelson’s Books, which was an amazing place to visit, as always.
I got another great welcome at Barnes & Noble in Huntington Beach, where the bright 7:00 P.M. sun felt like midday.
Someone in this crowd knows how I feel about chocolate — and look what she presented to me! (Did I mention how much I love being an author? Let me count the ways ... )
Like my HB cap? It stands for Huntington Beach. And no, I didn’t eat all the chocolate. I had to be alert the next day, for Lincoln Elementary School. I didn’t cownt on having to travel to the gym on the back of a red bovine. Unherd of! The school provided an udderly wonderful welcome sign, and the enthusiasm of the kids was quite mooving. I milked this visit for all it was worth.

Although they did not have a lion statue, they more than made up for it with this:
As if that wasn’t enough excitement, I met a bright, enthusiastic, and warmly welcoming crowd later that day at the Chamlian Armenian School.
All those presentations get a cowpoke mighty hungry. So I galloped into the Eagle Rock neighborhood to find some good grub. When I discovered a huge Filipino community, I let out a YEE-HAH! Our books have many fans in the Philippines — and you know who you are, so here’s a mabuhay to you:
Between the chocolate and the bibingka (a delicious type of rice cake from the Philippines), I was energized to take on Salt Lake City. (And, naturally, I switched caps.)
Once I started eating, there was no stopping me. In Utah my book tour became a food hunt.
In between meals I visited more schools, hosted by the amazing King’s English bookstore ...
...after which I went right back to, well, you know. (This restaurant, the oldest in Salt Lake City, had an entire Thanksgiving meal in a sandwich —turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce!)
After that, I needed a long hike. Salt Lake City has some breathtaking views and monster hills. It also has ... STATUES! As always, they taught me well and graciously took all my advice.
After running into Roland Smith in Portland, I hoped to find Linda Sue Park or David Baldacci in L.A. Alas, no such luck. But there was a friendly chap at my hotel in Salt Lake City, who was reading one of my favorite books ... Well, you’ll never believe who this guy really was! (Actually, you probably caught on before I did.) Now we have a mutual fan club.
Next stop, a couple of days in NYC and then Houston! Okay, for the next blog post, I will have a special challenge for all of you, a real 39 CLUES MESSAGE BOARD EXCLUSIVE!I can’t tell you about it yet, but I promise it will be fun! For now, a great big shout-out to ALL of you from around the world who have followed me on this incredible journey. Good to have you with me.
And, before I forget, back by popular demand, here is the newest writing prompt:“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer.
SIGNATURE backward is ERUTANGIS. My signature is actually a signarel.

HEY!!!!!! I just saw you in Texas. I called you intelligent!!!!! Any way I hope I'm the first to
The vesper was closing in with his knife. He was smiling, almost as if he enjoyed the look of pure terror in her eyes. He let out a small chuckle. A chuckle that would give Amy nightmares for months, if she lived that long. Evan wasn't their, nobody was. They all fled. In the first signs of danger Amy managed to get every one out safely. Every one but herself.
Amy knew it was the end, there was no hope. Unless, of course, superman was real. She knew she had about a minute at the most. She knew that in a second, the vespers would get what they wanted. But, surprisingly, Amy wasn't concerned for herself, she was concerned for Dan. And sinead. And Evan. And Ian, and Saladin, and Hamilton. She was wondering, what would they do without me?!?!?!?!?!?!? Of course, Amy never considered herself as extremely important. But, all she knew was that she was going to miss them terribly. Amy took one last breath, a breath that symbolized bravery, intelligence, and one last stand. She knew all of her lives, we're gone. "go ahead, kill me. I'm not afraid of you. I thought I was, but right now, you will the one who will be laughed at. And Dan WILL find you. He won't rest until you suffered the same fate I will"
She was surprised her stutter hadn't come in. It came when she was in danger, but then she realized, she wasn't scared. A man with a knife cornering her, and she wasn't scared at all! The man smile was now growing bigger. Amy didn't back up. She was tired of running from danger, she wanted to face it once and for all.
Then, the wall smashed. Someone had crashed throught the wall, and when she looked, it was Dan! The only thing she thought was..... Dan took the serum!!!!!! Dan took the serum, Dan took the serum, Dan took the serum. Dan now grabbed the knifed and stabbed the vesper. Amy looked at Dan and hugged him. She wasn't sure whether to be great full, or scared, or mad.
"Dan, why did you take the serum?"
"I didn't"
What? Amy thought, if he didn't take he serum, the how could he smash a wall and kill a man. Dan must have noticed th look of confusion on her eyes cause he said
"I couldn't imagine losing you"
Amy found tears welling up in her eyes. She hugged Dan, and Dan didn't mind at all.

Hi Mr. Lerangis! Thank you for being so great at communicating with us, your fans, in words, videos, and pictures! It is very thoughtful of you to take the time to share your tour with us!
I'm glad you consulted a wardrobe stylist and are now wearing a black hat with your suit. It suits you better!! You are also the funniest author I never met! Cool chocolate sign! That girl was very creative to make that for you. I bet all the chocolate IS gone by now, huh? You are really a good sport about things - riding on a red cow?!?!? WOW!! And, you certainly do have a great rapport with statues of all kinds! That's quite a developed talent! I was in Salt Lake City once - I love those mountains behind you in the photo! I miss them, too. We don't have mountains like that in Pennsylvania, but we do have Hershey and LOTS of CHOCOLATE! I'm surprised you didn't REQUEST that city on your tour!

"Evan!" Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but their was no answer. He had fell through the stairs. When she went to the dangling step she called for Evan again. No answer. Oh Amy knew this was a bad idea. Instead of hanging out at the movies she and Evan decided to explore the Vesper hideout. Then Amy started to cry. She longed for Evan's voice again. Suddenly, Evan popped out from behind a column holding up the ceiling of the Vesper hideout. She gasped. Then in a furor, she shook Evan outrageously. "What are you doing!!!!!!"Amy screamed. "You scared me to death." "I was having some fun." " You know, from all this Vesper and hostage bussiness." "Fine, but keep your eye's peeled we must see if we could find any evidence or or info on the hostages location or the Vesper Council of Six. The next 54 min. later they found nothing. Nothing. To think they could get ahead of the enemy. To dechiper and eradicate the mystery of the Council and the Vespers themselves." Look's like there's nothing here Evan" Amy said. "Okay, let's get out of here then". Just then Amy heard a crack. A tranquilizer dart flew through the air and hit her in the deltoid. As Amy was unreeling into unconsiousiness Evan lifted her. He then flipped out his phone, and texted to Dan "HELP. AT THE VESPER HIDEOUT. COME FAST." Before he pressed send, a heavy boot stepped on the phone and shot Evan with a tranquilizer dart.

Well Mr Lerangis that run in with Roland was incredible, but it seems like you didn`t have the luck to meet him in LA and Salt Lake City. Alas that is life , so a quick question you seem to spend alot of time traveling all over , is there one place you always want to go to on tour but can`t?

Nice PETER!!! I love Cali!! If only I lived there. . .
\Amy was sitting in her room; it had been a little more than two years since to clue hunt and she was dating Evan. Nellie shouted her name from down stairs, Amy sighed, why did Nellie have to yell? She was right up stairs!
Amy put down the novel she’d been shredding through and started to walk down stairs. “Yeah?” she asked, knowing she sounded exasperated.
“Evan’s here,” Nellie said at the door and Amy’s mood brightened immediately. Nellie rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out. Very mature, Amy thought rolling her eyes.
“Hey, Evan,” I walked to the door. “Want to come in?”
“Sure,” Amy moved aside and Evan walked in, smiling.
“I was sitting at home and was wondering if you wanted to go to a movie, I know its last minute but if you don’t have any plans . . .” He didn’t finish.
“No, its okay, I’d love to,” Amy felt like jumping up and down but restrained herself. She still wasn’t use to the fact that she was actually dating Evan, and it made her super excited whenever she thought about it.
“Great, I’ll stay here,” Evan sat on the couch and jittered around.
“Hey, Amy, I’m going to the store to get some ingredients for dinner I’ll be back,” Nellie came over and gave Amy a quick hug before leaving with a slight wave to Evan.
Amy jogged up the stairs and changed into something more pretty. A blue blouse with blue jeans and black converse, she slipped my phone in my pocket and slipped her keys in the purse.
Suddenly a loud boom! Made Amy jump, she ran down to the bottom of the stairs and found a cloud of smoke waiting for her and coughed.
“Evan?” She shrieked looking into the gloom, there was no answer. Amy pulled out her cell phone and dialed 9-1-1. Hopefully Evan was okay, but who would have done this?

CHRIS D'LACEY!!! I love his books, you met him?! Gosh, I want to read The Fire Ascending. It's the conclusion, right? So excited. But as you might have noticed, conclusions to good series are usually bad. Mockingjay of Hunger Games was horrible, and I'm really nervous to see what Nevermore of Maximum Ride will turn out like (The Fire in Witch and Wizard was all right, though. But The Death Cure in Maze Runner isn't very good. Too much death).
Peter, I found a glitch in The CvV series! We unmask ONE Vesper per book, right? But Amy and Dan don't find out until the NEXT book. So if WE unmask V1 in book 6, will there be book 7, then? Unless THEY unmask him in book 6, but that means there won't be any point to the mission anymore. Unless it's adifferent special one. Also, when the series ends, what happens to this MB? Will it be deleted? What happens to the website? Or will there (unlikely) be third story arc, or at least a special edition depicting the Cahill's futures?
I'll do your prompt later, although for Amian and Jamy fans, it should be exciting! I know just what to do...

Ahh yes. I was at Ms. Nelson's bookstore. I noticed that across the street from it was a high school called Damien High School or something like that. Damien Vesper might have been monitoring us! Anyway, here's the story.
"Evan!" Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a monent from the lobby, but there was no answer. This was bad. She knew the Vespers had caused the power outage in their hotel in Ireland. At night! The Vespers had requested that EVERY Cahill in Attleboro and Amy and Dan had to meet in a certain hotel in Ireland. A hotel owned by the Vespers, no doubt.
Then she heard pounding from the elevator. "Ames!" screamed Evan's voice. "Help! I'm stuck in the elevator! I think you could fix the power outage by-" an explosion in the elevator cut him off. The ruined elevator fell on the lobby floor Evan screamed as he fell down the elevator shaft. As Amy ran to him. (She could see a little from the moonight outside.) But there was no one at the bottom of the elevator shaft. Suddenly, she heard the fromt door click. She turned. And a man in red was standing in front of it. Then the light went on. "We had to dispose of him," the man said to Amy. " His knowledge of our phone could have led to our defeat."
"You're...Vesper One?" said Amy. "Yes," the man said. "But do you know my name? No! You don't know my identity!" Then the lights went out again. When they came back on, the Vesper was gone. Dan and Ian came running down the stairs. They tripped, of course, because the light was off. "What happened?" Dan asked. Amy told the story as she burst into tears. Evan was gone. And so was the elevator.

Amy and Dan had just gotton home in boston from all there mitions. They where both tired and about to fall asleep, but all the sudden they here somthin from down stairs like a gun.“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer."Senead" Dan yelled", but still no answer. Amy and Dan ran down stairs and saw senead with a needle in her arm, and Evan with a whole in his chest. Then standin behind them both was a buly man with a gun. Dan didnt stutter at all, instead he grabbed the emergancy num-chucks hidden behind the couch. He made one powerfull swing and knocked the gun right out of the mans hand. Dan lunged toward the gun and grabbed it. Amy stood there frozen, for one she was stunned that a vesper was in her house on the first day back home to relax. Second she didnt even know there where num-chucks behind the couch. The man took out a knife and threw it toward amy, thats when she moved but it still hit her side. Amy whined in pain. He took out another knife and threw it toward dan, but it only skimmed dans leg. Dan shot the gun at the man and it hit the mans leg. The man limped out of the house, and they heard a car shriek past the house. Dan rushed over to Amy to make shure she was ok. Amy's gash was huge. Her side wouldn't top bleeding. Dan just had a little cut so he took care of Amy and called Ian and Hamilton to come back from there mition imediatly.

Peter! How's it going? I see you still have that baseball cap on after your long tour of the States.
Actually, I did have a plan of posting all my prompts again in another site...though I would have to find them...again, and compile them. I actually write fanfictions mostly on that site too, and I'm struggling to write fanfictions other than the 39 Clues...there are SO many possibilities...
About the whole high school/college pictures going to be ridiculous in the future...REALLY? I don't think so...but I would cry when I still see those pictures...they remind me of...
Your food trip was very interesting too. Though, I do not know Jolibee would serve cross-cut fries, since I haven't eaten one in my country...and that's where THAT store originated! And how did you like the bibingka? If you did like it, try going to the Philippines if you have time. We have rice muffins too, or puto as we call them here. It is a fact that there are a lot of Filipinos in the US. Most of my family members have already migrated there.
About the prompt, will send in here later!

“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. Where is he? Amy thought. She had searched all of the estate, called him and there was no sign of Evan in the attempt. It was worrying her that Evan might of be kiddnapped. "Amy, why are you looking for Evan? Haven't you implanted a microchip in him yet?" Dan said behind Amy.
"Have you seen him? I can't find him and I'm getting worried."
"No, but don't worry he probaly just went out to find a life." Dan snickered. Amy rolled her I eyes and tried to ring Evan again. This time someone answered but it wasn't Evan. "Hello?" a croaky voice whispered.
"Sorry wrong number."
"Wait. Who do you want?"
"Evan."
"Right number sweetheart. Just wrong time, Evans a bit... busy. Call in another year or so." The man said the hung up.
"Dan!" Amy screamed.

Since I've got nothing to do, I might as well write :)
“Evan!” Amy Cahill shrieked from the bottom of the stairs. She waited a moment, but there was no answer. Tears started to stream down her face as she ran up the steep, concrete staircase, blinding her view. She didn't stop running until she got to the top. After wiping away her tears, she found Evan lying on the floor, groaning.
Amy planted a kiss onto his cheek. "Oh Evan, what on earth happened to you?"
"I don't know, Amy. I don't know," He replied weakly. "I didn't see anything except for a shadow."
"I don't care about who hurt you. I only care about keeping you alive. Now -" Amy sobbed.
"Listen Ames, listen. I know I'm going to die and there's nothing you can do about it at all." Evan gripped her hand. "Amy, you need to go now. Leave me here. There's nothing you can do to save me."
"But -"
"No buts. Now go, Amy. Go save the world for me."
Amy planted one final, sweet kiss onto Evan's lips before she reluctantly ran away, leaving Evan alone in the darkness as he died.

Hey! I think that's Chris D'Lacey. Is it? I have not watched the video yet, so I'm not sure. I'm reading his series, The Last Dragon Chronicles. I just preordered the last book (The Fire Ascending, which is the one he's holding).
