ASHLEY: Chapter 1.A
I should have known the second I woke up that morning that my life was about to be changed forever.
Mainly because it was the second week of summer, and my mom woke me up at seven in the morning.
I groaned as she turned my room's light on, shouting 'Rise and Shine!' as she pulled my blanket off of me. I looked up, glaring at my mother with a look that could kill someone if I really wanted to.
"Ashey! You have that job today, remember?" she said, shaking me back and forth.
My eyes bolted open as I shot up. "THAT'S TODAY?" I screamed, instantly running over to throw on a shirt. My local theater had offered me a job as a teacher's assistant this summer, and it paid $10 an hour; cash I needed if I was saving up to get a car at the end of the summer.
My mother shrugged. "I keep telling you that you need to get a calander." she ruffled my hair as I struggled to pull a pair of shorts on.
"Yes, but I always lose them!" I yelled, running over to get some shoes from my closet.
My mother sighed a grabbed a pair of shoes from under my bed, thrusting them at my chest. "Here's a solution; clean your room."
"I'm waiting until one day when I'm rich and famous and I can pay someone to clean it for me." I said with a wink. My mom let out a giggle before turning around to exit my room.
I walked over to my coin-bank as my mother left and plopped a couple of coins in it. "Only a few hundred more," I said with a smile, writing my new total on my white board.
The next thirty minutes was a whirlwind. I finished getting on my uniform and ate some cereal, then My mom drove me to my job.
I 'worked' for five hours (Even though I felt like I wasn't doing anything except staring at children) my mom came back and picked me up, asking me all sorts of questions about 'how my day was' and stuff.
When I got home, I collapsed on my bed and took a nice, hour-long nap. I didn't know why, exactly I was tired, I hadn't really done anything all day, but nonetheess, the nap felt good.
As I woke up, I yawned and picked up my laptop, realizing I hadn't checked e-mail all day. My inbox was crazy.
Kate: HEY!!!
Kate: Where are you?
Krissy: LOL this is so funny!!!!!

I raised an eyebrow. Did the 39 Clues e-mails normally say they were from Rick Riordan? And what the heck was 'The Ultimate Challenge'? A new book?
I clicked the e-mail and allowed it to load for a long moment. Slowly, the black text emerged on the white screen.

Subject: Into the Gauntlet: The Ultimate Challenge
Message:
Dear Ashley (SteelBone2),
Hello. You have been chosen among 24 others from the vast fanbase of The 39 Clues series to compete in a Challenge. The Ultimate Challenge.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rick Riordan. I am one of the Authors of The 39 Clues series. I know this may all be confusing, so let me break it up for you.
First off, no, this is not a group e-mail. This is personal to you from me. If you want proof, I can tell you that you're Message Board Janus Leader right now.
Secondly, last week on the Message Board, we sent out a poll to every user asking the 25 most popular people. You were one of the voted ones. Congratulations.
Next up, the reason you 25 have been chosen is because many people believe The 39 Clues series is real. Sadly, at the current moment, it's not. You will change that.
You and the other 24 will be taken to one of the Scholastic Headquarters to meet me and some of the other authors in person. There, you all will be given $10,000, each. You will then be sent on an all-summer Challenge to find the 39 Clues scattered all around the world.
The best part? It will all be on television.
No one will be in an alliance. It will be one-on-one. You can make alliances throughout the challenge, but ultimately, there will be one winner.
The winner will earn a nice $25,000 to keep and be mentioned in a 39 Clues book.
Please respond saying if you are able to compete. Thank you, and remember to Trust no one.

Into the Gauntlet: The Ultimate Challenge
on another page you said it was my turn so here, check this load of awsomeness out.
I was more or less a bum...........my parents were well off and I didn't do a darn thing. I wrote my story..........sat at my computer, played videogames and watched TV. Right now I was watching a replay of the hockey game from last night. The Devils beat the Panthers and I missed it. I was a huge Devils fan. I sat on my couch in full Devils gear watching as they went to OT. The Devils won and I hopped off my couch and went downstairs. I got myself some breakfast as I sat there. I looked at the calendar on the wall. Then it hit me 'Today was the day' I was going to get a car today. I had 8 grand saved up and my parents were going to pay for the other half. Then I saw an envelope with my name scrawled on it in my father's writing. It said Go buy yourself a car........Just remember 16 grand is your limit.. It had a little smiley face and a 'love dad' next to it. In the bottom was the other 8 grand. I now had 16 grand to buy a car. I got ready to go. On step of which was checking my E-mail. i had an E-mail from Rik Riordan. That was strange. I was never a Rick Riordan fan, in fact I disliked most of his stuff, even his 39 clues books weren't that great. It said that I was chosen to make the 39 clues a reality and that I was going to participate with message board people. This was great, I could get to meet some of the people I knew on the MB for real......unfortunately I did have my enemies. What struck me the most is he knew who I was. I thought that was odd. He said, "No this is not a joke, to prove it, I know you are a Lucian councilman who was forced into the vespers." Okay so this was going to happen but first I needed to get my car. I left the house and walked toward our dealership. Then, a van pulled up, A man stepped out......"Are you joe, the Lucian councilman on the 39 clues MB....." the man asked. "UHHHHH............Yeah," I said, "what's it to you." "I am here to take you to where youw ill begin your hunt." He said. "I already spoke with your parents ont eh phone, they okayed it. But we need to go now......" The man said. "I'm gonna call my mom and check this out." He motioned as if to say go ahead. It was true. "I didn't catch your name sir," I said. "Lerangis, Peter lerangis, we are picking everyone up personally." My jaw dropped and I nearly fainted. My favorite 39 clues writer was standing in front of me.

Ok, Now I got it!!!

Bleep bleep bleep!!! I woke up to that iritating sound of my alarm clock. I slamed my fist onto it like in the movies but ended up hurting my hand and changing it to the radio.
"Well today It will be sunny with alot of wind. You can Feel it as soon as you step outside. Perfect weather for a trip to the beach, No-" I turned it off. I wasnt going to the beach today, Why should I listen to how lovely it is? No, It's summer time, I'm in florida, but I have to stay at my house today because my mother and father are out with my grandmother for a party. I Did not go because Indiana was a long way from the beach.
My friend would pick me up tomarrow to stay with her for the rest of the summer. She lived right next to the beach and she would teach me how to surf.
I made myself some breakfast (Poptarts in the microwave) and Grabed some milk and went to my computer. I scaned through my e-mails
From Lindsay: You ready?
From Zoe: Hows your summer?
From navah: I got a new I-pod!!

I stoped looking through the E-mails when I saw The last one. "Rick Riordan has my E-mail?" Was the first thing I said. The it dawned on me, He was my favorit auther and he sent me an E-mail. I started to jump up and down sending my milk onto the tile floor. My cat was happy, She licked it up as I opened the E-mail.

I stared at the screen before jumping up and down again. I ran to the phone, (and almost steped on my cat) and called my mom.
"Hello? Grace?" She asked, "Yes it's me, Hi Check your e-mail like right now!!" I said then stoped and ran back to my e-mail and sent the one from Rick Riordan to her. I ran back to the phone. "Grace, Whats this about?" She asked. "Just look for the Rick Riordan one!! He sent an e-mail to me and look at it! Please let me!!!" I asked/ begged. There was silence and then I heard my Mother ask, "Brandon? Come look at this. Grace wants to join."
I herd my dad walk over and them talk for a bit. Finaly my mother Responded, "Grace...We'll let you do this. I mean you can't really get hurt. We know this means alot to you. We will tell Lindsay that your doing this, Just call us everyday, ok?" She asked. "Yes!!! You'll see me on TV too! I love you, Thank you!!!! Bye!" I said and hung up I finished my poptart, (Which had gotten cold) and ran up stairs to pack. Once I finished I waited around by going on the MB and Looking at other stories before I left.
Then I heard the knock on the door, I ran and looked through the peek hole. It was a man That I knew as the man who E-mailed me. Rick Riordan. I opened the door and smiled. "Hello, I'm Rick Riordan. I'm here to pick you up. Are you ready?" He asked, I couldn't even Hide my smile it was so big. "Yes, I'm ready. Are we going now? Can we go now?" He smiled. "Yes, Come on the car is over there." He said and togather we walked down to the car and for me a whole new life.

Guys, not to be annoying, but I have some complaints with your entrys. If this was real life, your parents would not just be like "oh yeah, sure you can go," they would be like "what?! Continuing.....'An email a 1 am?' that was my first thought as I dragged my self out of bed and over to my laptop. The bright screen burned my eyes as I checked my inbox. At the top of the list, I saw what had awakened me. "Into the Gauntlet: The Ultimate Challenge" the sender was blocked. I opened the mail, and my eyes widened as I read. The email was from Rick Riordan. He wanted me to participate in the ultimate 39Clues challenge. On live TV. I screamed, and at that time, my doorbell rang. What a rude awakening for my family at 1 AM. I ran down the stairs, and peeked through the door at the visitor. And there stood Rick Riordan, in the flesh.
