Hey guys, Madellin here. I'm writing a story for school, but I want your opinion. I'll write the first chapter, then I'll see if you like it. I don't want anyone to criticize, but if you spot a mistake, or know how to make my writing excel, then post a comment! Thanks!
Here goes:
Chapter one
Panting and out of breath, Kale Frost ran to a nearby ally. It was dark and narrow, but she had no choice. With every step she took, the squeal of the black van behind seemed to get closer. The van was too big to go through the ally. Men in black came out, running toward her. She turned and put my hands in front of her, aiming at the van. Ice shot out, making a wall between her and the men. But bullets were shooting through it, and the wall broke. Kale turned and began running again.
She ducked to a wall and made sure she camouflaged in the dark. She held my breath as the men ran past her. She closed her eyes with relief and leaned back on the wall. She gripped her silver locket around her neck.
The events of these past few days really changed her life. And it was only because of her powers.
The hunt started a few days ago, after the ‘Hunters’ knew she actually existed. The Hunters were an organization that hunts down people like her. They’ve decreased our numbers until they were very few. Many of them went into hiding much after. They chased them out of their homes, away from their family, just to capture or kill them.
Kale closed her eyes, tears falling down her face. She remembered Anna, her little sister. Kale tucked her dark hair behind her ears. She was the only one in her family who had these powers.
She thought of the Hunters. What would they do if they caught me? Kale froze, terrified of the thought. Would they experiment on her, like she was some animal? Or would they keep her locked up, not seeing anyone ever again?
Thinking, she was about to drift off to an exhausted sleep when she heard a faint rustle behind her. Before she could react, a quick hand slid over her waist, clamped a hand to her mouth, and the next thing she knew she was plunged into darkness.

Chapter fifteen
Kale woke to something nudging leg. Groaning, she sat up, softly brushing hay off her shirt. When she looked at her leg, she saw a small cat with golden fur and dark blue, almost black, eyes. She reached out to pet it, and it started to purr gently. Kale smiled. It reminded her of the pet she had three years ago.
Kale heard someone stir. It was Leo, shifting from side to side.
“You awake?” Kale whispered, trying not to wake Annabel and Skye. He sat up groggily, rubbing his eyes.
“Yeah,” He said softly. “I’m gonna fix something to eat, alright?”
Kale nodded, standing, picking up the cat with her. Leo glanced at it.
“Where did you find that?” He asked, taking out bread from his bag.
“It was beside me when I woke up. It’s gentle. See?” Kale held the cat to Leo, who half-smiled.
“Sorry. I’m more of a dog person.”
The cat hissed loudly, waking Annabel. Kale laughed.
“I’m hungry,” Annabel muttered, yawning. She elbowed Skye, waking him.
“Time to eat,” Leo announced, handing out cheese sandwiches. While they chewed, Kale’s cat jumped out of her arms and ran out.
“So,” Annabel said, starting a conversation. “How long are we going to stay here?”
Leo thought for a moment. “Quite a while. We can’t leave now, that wouldn’t be very wise.”
“Not to mention there could be Hunter Spies lurking anywhere,” Added Skye. Leo nodded.
“Yeah. That too.”

The golden cat was sprinting as fast as it could through the tall, dead grass. As he was running, he shape-shifted into a young man, in his early thirties. He was grinning, his green eyes gleaming. He found out where the elementals were hiding, and found Skye. The boss would probably give him a reward for that. He took out his cell phone, dialling his boss.
At the second beep, the Leader answered.
“Luke. What is it? You found them?” Luke grinned, though no one could see him.
“Yeah. And get this. Skye’s working with them now. I over-heard them last night.”
“Excellent. I have a new mission for you.” Luke’s grin became wider and wider as the Leader explained the plan in his ears.

Chapter sixteen (Part One)
“Hey, guys?” Leo called out. “Do you know where the bag with our supplies is?”
Kale shook her head, while Annabel and Skye searched.
“It was right beside the door. We didn’t move it anywhere.” Annabel said.
“I can’t find it,” Skye said, coming from behind a hay stack. “I’ll go to the city and get some more.”
Leo shook his head. “No, it’s too risky. If the Hunters catch you, they might hurt the one important to you. I’ll go.” "Are you sure?” Kale asked. “I’ll come with you, if you want.”
“No, I’ll go alone. I’ll be back in an hour.” Leo said, going out the door. Kale was about to say something, but closed her mouth. After a few minutes, she spoke again.
“I’ve been having this crazy idea for a while now….” Her voice trailed off, not wanting to finish.
“What is it?” Skye asked, suddenly curious. Kale fiddled with her silver locket.
"What if I said that I got sick of running? What if we could fight back?” Kale waited for them to say something like; ‘That’s crazy,’ or ‘Impossible,’ but instead, Annabel smiled slowly.
“What’s on your mind?” She asked.
“Well, I was thinking that if we could gather all the elementals, we could fight back. We could end the ‘Hunters’ once and for all. No more killing. Suffering. Kidnapping.” Kale finished, looking at Skye and Annabel’s faces. Skye’s eyes lit up.
“We could save my sister!” He exclaimed, a smile dawning on his face. Kale now understood that the captive was Skye’s sister. Annabel stood.
“I’m going to go get Leo. He has to hear this!” Annabel sprinted out before Kale or Skye could say anything. Kale grinned.
“No point in going after her.” She murmured, standing. “I need some fresh air. I’ll be back in a moment.” She walked out the door.
“Call me if you need anything!” Skye called out.
“Okay,” Kale replied, turning to flash him a smile.

Chapter sixteen (Part Two)
Kale kept walking through the long, dead grass, the sun’s rays making them gold with shine. She reached up to unfasten her locket. The silver chain was wrapped once around on finger, letting the locket dangle. She opened it, hearing the soothing lullaby. She remembered her mother humming the melody to her when she was just a child, wanting to lull her to sleep.
Kale heard a swishing sound behind her. Someone was moving through the grass. She turned, holding one hand in front of her, bracing for an attack. But it was Leo. She sighed in relief, putting her hand down.
“Leo!” She called out. “Where’s Annabel?”
Leo looked slightly confused, but then regained his smile.
“She’s right behind me. But a bit far off.”
“Oh.” Kale’s eyebrow went up when Leo was just one foot away from her.
“Where are the supplies?”
“With Annabel.” Leo immediately answered. He looked into Kale’s eyes.
“Kale? I’ve wanted to talk to you about something.”
There was something odd about Leo’s voice, Kale realized. It was gentler. A tone he hasn’t used with her before.
“What is it?” She asked. He put a hand on her shoulder, and then touched her face. Kale’s cheeks started to burn.
“Karoline, I feel that I have to tell you how I feel…” He took her hand. “About us.”
Kale looked into Leo’s eyes. The same sparkling green she first noticed when she met him. Kale felt relaxed, wanting this moment to last forever, repeating what he had just told her. Until…
Karoline?
"You never call me that,” Kale murmured wearily, looking at his face. Something changed in Leo’s face. It was his eyes. A sparkling emerald clashing with…Dark blue? Kale was immediately alarmed. She stepped backwards, away from Leo.
“You—” She shook her head quickly, forcing the words out of her mouth, not believing them herself. She finally looked up into his dark blue eyes.
“You’re not Leo.”

Sorry, I was grounded. I was planning to release the next chapter yesterday, but I couldn't. Anyway, here it is:
Chapter Seventeen
Kale clenched her fist, ready to punch. Leo—or whoever it was— was smiling. Not his soft smile, but a cold, bitter smile.
“What are you talking about?” He tilted his head innocently. “I am Leo.”
“Stay away from me,” Kale warned. He sighed.
“I guess I have no choice.”
Kale punched the imposter, but he caught her hand an inch before she gave him a black eye.
“Too slow,” He hissed. He twisted her arm. Kale cried out, dropping to her knees.
“Skye!” She screamed. Skye came out of the stable. He sprinted toward her, but the imposter pulled her up.
“Leo!” Skye shouted. “What are you doing? Let go of her!”
Kale felt something against her neck. It was sharp.
“Take one step closer. I dare you.” The fake Leo threatened. Skye heard a car’s familiar squeal. Soon, a black jeep came into view. The imposter whispered into Kale’s ear.
“This might sting a little.” Kale felt something jab into her white skin. She cried out, clutching the imposter’s arm, which was around her neck. She started to feel numb all over, floating, feeling free of gravity itself. Her world started to spin as she slowly slipped into unconsciousness. She fought to stay awake, but the drug spread around her body in a matter of seconds. The last thing she heard was her locket’s haunting melody, as if it was mocking her to go to sleep.

Skye watched helplessly as Luke swung Kale over his shoulder. He was familiar to Skye; he was introduced as a member of the Hunters while Skye was still captured. Skye took a step toward him.
“Luke,” Skye said carefully. “Put her down. You don’t understand what you’re doing.”
Luke finally changed back to his former look. His dark blue eyes looked black, and his golden hair was literally shining in the sun.
“Sorry, Skye. But they offered me a lot.” He said. This time he took a step closer. “The boss knows you went with them willingly. If you come with me now, he’ll forget about what you did. Accept this offer. While we’re still friends. Later, things won’t be so smooth.” He turned, taking steps toward the black jeep. Kale’s limp body swung behind him. Skye clenched his fists.
He wasn’t letting this happen. Not again. The last time he saw something like this was his little sister getting carried off. He ran behind Luke, who effortlessly blocked his attack.
“Don’t bother.” He muttered, then his head snapped to a direction. Skye followed his glare. It was the real Leo, sprinting, Annabel behind him. He looked enraged.
“Let her go!” He shouted. Leo raised his hands to shoot balls of fire, but Luke was sprinting to the jeep. He handed Kale’s body to the Hunters’ outstretched hands, hurling her inside. Leo clenched his teeth, running after the van. But it drove at blinding speed, becoming a spec in the distance by each second.
Leo stopped; his face paling. His heart was thudding against his chest. Horror was dawning on his face. He couldn’t believe it.
Kale. He thought. She’s gone

I'm sorry I haven't posted, and I also haven't been on in a while. There was something I had to train for, so...
Chapter eighteen
Luke wrapped a tight rope around Kale’s limp hands and feet. Though she was unconscious, he always thought that it didn’t hurt to be careful. After he was finished, he reached into his pocket for his cell phone. He dialled his boss.
“I got her,” He said before his boss could speak. Normally, his boss would have thrown a fit for interrupting, but his plans were nearly complete.
“Excellent. Everything’s going according to plan.”
Even though Luke couldn’t see his boss, he knew he was smiling his rare, bitter smile.

Leo knelt to pick up Kale’s locket, which was still playing the sad lullaby. His back was toward Annabel and Skye, who were both silent from shock. Leo’s free hand was clenched, and his knuckles were turning white. He let it happen again. A small memory of Carter’s sad, smiling face appeared before his eyes. Then flashes of him fighting to protect Leo, getting captured just to save him. He shut the locket with a click, and at once the lullaby stopped.
Skye took a step toward him. “Leo...?”
“What did you think?” Leo turned to face Skye, his eyes blazing. “That we were stupid?”
“What are you talking about?” Leo grabbed Skye’s collar. “I know you’re working for the Hunters. I know you betrayed us. You led them here, and now they took Kale!”
Skye’s eyes widened. “I’d never do that! The Hunters are my worst enemy!”
Annabel rushed over to Leo, grabbing the arm that grasped Skye’s collar.
“Leo. That’s enough.” She said firmly. Leo paid no attention to her, but continued to stare at Skye’s face. His expression made him seem look like the child he never was. Skye was breathing hard, both hands clasped on Leo’s. Leo set him down, letting him go.
“I’m sorry,” Leo said, putting a hand on his shoulder. Skye nodded firmly. Leo gripped Kale’s locket.
“We need to focus on getting her back. But we can’t do it alone.” Leo nodded at Annabel. “She told me Kale’s plan. I suggest we take it into action as soon as possible.”

Chapter nineteen
Annabel, Skye, and Leo were slowly walking back to the abandoned farmhouse. Annabel was trudging behind them, hugging herself. Her face forever turned were Kale was last seen, as if she was going to see Kale walking to them with her usual soft smile. Annabel only knew Kale for three days, and it felt as if she were her sister. The sister she always wanted, but sadly, never had.
When Annabel saw the man haul Kale over his shoulder, her heart almost stopped beating. And she was going to stop herself from putting an end to the fight between Leo and Skye; she almost believed that Skye had betrayed them herself. Annabel placed a lock of her blonde hair behind her ear. She had stayed behind Leo and Skye because she was afraid they’d see her tears. Leo turned, and Annabel quickly wiped her face with the back of her hand. But when she looked into Leo’s hollow green eyes, her lips trembled. She could tell by Leo’s eyes that he was going through mixed emotions. Hatred, sorrow, and worry were deep in his emerald eyes. He cared. Annabel looked away, blinking away the tears.

Leo turned his head around and began to stare off into space. He felt that it was his fault for Kale’s capture. Why hadn’t he stayed in the farm? He would have been there to save her. Leo remembered Kale’s body being put into the jeep. His fists clenched at the thought of the Hunter who manipulated Kale. He wanted to punch that treacherous smile of his.
“Who was he?” Leo asked quietly.
Skye glanced at him. Skye knew who Leo was talking about. “His name’s Luke.” He muttered. Before, Skye seemed more mature for his age, but now he acted like any miserable teenager. “I was introduced to him a year ago, when they just captured him. But he seemed...Well, happy to be there. As if he got himself captured.” Skye shook his head. “I didn’t know he could shape shift.” He gave Leo a side glance. “He spoke to Kale in your form.”
Despite Leo’s current mood, he looked up, surprised. “In my form?”
Skye nodded. “They probably thought you were the closest to Kale from all of us.”
Leo noticed Annabel was more quiet than usual. He turned to look at her again, and he saw her examining Kale’s locket. She began to twist the key, and they all heard the tinkling melody. It made Leo’s heart feel the empty space he felt when Kale wasn’t there. They all fell silent. They stayed silent for a long time.

I'm sorry guys, but after this chapter, I won't be able to post for a while. I have a lot of things to do, and now I have exams, and upcoming talent shows, and now my school's doing a musical....Well, I'll try to post when I can. Also, I have a new idea for a story. Chapter twenty
Kale’s eyes flashed open, and she began to breathe very quickly. The memories of what had happened quickly passed through her mind, and she became more and more terrified. She tried moving her hands, but they were fastened behind a chair she was sitting on. Everyone knows you can’t use your powers with your hands tied.

Royce knocked on his boss’s door.
“Come in,” The boss called out. Royce came in rushing.
“She’s awake.” He informed. His boss pointed at one camera screen, and they both saw he captured girl. She was trying to move her hands, but there wasn’t any point.
“What do we do?” Royce asked, not taking his off the screen.
“I’m going to ask her a few questions.” The boss got up from his seat.
Royce turned to stare at him, almost with shock. This girl must be very important, having the boss himself interrogate her.

Kale had given up trying to break free. With a groan, her head bowed until her hair covered half her face. I’m a fool, she thought. I let myself be deceived. She should have known that imposter wasn’t Leo. She had let him manipulate her. And worst of all, she thought Leo liked her back. She heard a lock open, but she didn’t bother to raise her head.
“What do you want?” Kale said sharply. She looked up. She thought it was Royce, the Hunter that was chasing her since the beginning. But it wasn’t him. This agent’s face was unfamiliar. His reddish brown hair was combed back professionally, and his crisp black suit was tailored for him. He had a mocking look in his amber eyes.
“Who are you?” She asked.
He laughed bitterly. “I’m not that surprised you don’t know who I am.” He straightened. “I’m the leader of this organization.”
Kale’s eyes widened. What was the leader doing here?
