I HAVE A LEAD ON THE SECRET OF GIDEON'S RING!!!
Hi guys.
I have a real lead on Gideon's ring. When you look at the inside (on the missions screen) it has a bunch of constelltions, names and star names! And get this: ALL OF THE CONSTELLTIONS AND SEPERATE STARS WERE FOUNDED BY AN ASTRONOMER NAMED PTOLEMY!!! THIS IS NO COINCIDENCE!!! SO PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!! RESEARCH PTOLEMY!!! I AM DOING THAT RIGHT NOW!!! I WILL POST ALL I KNOW ABOUT HIM SOON!!! I ALSO HAVE SOME OTHER BITS AND PIECES THAT SERVE AS A CONFUSING LEAD. CONFUSING, BUT DEFINITELY A LEAD!!!! I've done research of my own and have found out that all the constellation names origanate from Greece. I believe that if we look pass Gideon and keep going back that we'll find that the first Cahill lived in Greeece.

THAT GUY WAS A CAHILL? I've been studying about him! *Smacks head on desk* Here is some info!
Ptolemy was a Roman citizen of Egypt (Ekaterina hotspot!) who wrote in greek. He was a math whiz, an astronomer, astroger and geographer. He wrote a book conserning natural philosophy. (Philosophers stone is the product of the clues!) He was crazy with the stars and the moon and Celestial Navigation. (Which is navigating by observing the sun, moon and stars!) He claimed to have derived his geometrical models from selected astronomical observations by his predecessors spanning more than 800 years.

I am 99% sure that the ring is both an inductor and a conductor, so it would basically be a power supply for some other machine. I believe that the machine is a time machine or something. Dunno. Yeah, Ptolemy was pretty famous. But I don't see how Ulugh Beg fits in with the whol astronomy thing with Ptolemy, because it wouldn't have been possible for them to have known eachother. But Archimedes comes in with the sand reckoner. So, you'd basically have three astronomers: Ptolemy, Archimedes (I don't know if he was an astronomer or a mathematician), and Ulugh Beg, or Ulugbek.

i sort of found another lead. i found out that Ptolemy's death is unspecified. it is probably the Vespers. I don't exactly remeber when the Cahill generation started though. Right now i am researching the first person in Greece.

Okay. I got the info through Amy-Cahill like research. I noticed one of the constellations was Ptolemy's, so i looked at a list of his constellations, and they all belonged to him. I think that we should have two divisions for now. Me and AmberSpicy can look at Ptolemy, and me and AquaWolf can look at Greece. Unless you guys want to look at both topics as a whole group. I also think we should research Argo Navis. It is his most famous discontinued constellation. It was the largest one in history. And better yet, it was named after the GREEK boat ARGO, that Jason used in his journeys. We should also research Nicolas Louis de Lacaille, who was a french astronomer who divided Argo Navis into three constellations. Carina, Puppix and Vela. So there are spme more leads. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS AND I AM CONFIDENT THAT THESE LEADS ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK BOOKTURQUOISE WHO MENTIONED CONSTELLTIONS ON HER RING POST. WITHOUT THAT POST, I WOULDN'T OF THOUGHT MUCH ABOUT CONSTELLATIONS, HENCE NOT AT ALL ABOUT PTOLEMY.

Okay, I researched Ptolemy's family, and it turns out he was related to Cleopatra! However, he lived a LONG time before Damien and Gideon's time, so DecodingDolphin28's theory about his death being caused by Vespers is most likely incorrect (sorry!).

Also, I am not sure who it was, but someone posted here about Ptolemy and geometric models. Well, if you read Vespers Rising, Katherine was disassembling a 'family heirloom'. In the picture of the fire, what is she holding. Said heirloom, which is a geometric model of the moon. Someone else mentioned power sources. I think you are right. Both of Positive and Negative are written inside the ring, so it is at least a battery. please continue with your research and report back here. I am told i am good at research so don't hesitate to ask me for help.

So, keep researching what you already are, but I think it is possible that the ring powers Antikythera Mechanism. That is a very rushed conclusion, so do not take it to heart. Just consider it.

1. Gideon's ring is some sort of mechanical device as shown on the card that is an x-ray of his ring.
2. in the Medusa Plot they want a book that was about marco polo's travles. he went to china. if i remember correctly china was at the time the world leader in both medical stuff and rockets.
logicaly that means that gideons ring is probably some pice of some device that involvs rockets or medical stuff that will give the vespers some incredible power.

Wait, wasn't Cleopatra a Cahill? And I tried researching the Stale Orb. There isn't much info. It was lost a long time ago, and no one has been able to find it. And by a long time, i mean back when Archimedes was alive. I think it was on the ship that sunk at the same time as his death. The only results about the Stale Orb are these three things:
1)It is in 39 clues
2)It was a Geocentric model
3)It was Archimedes.
I have some more info for the lead, but I am busy right now. I will upload it later today/tonight.

Snakespy: google the machine i mentioned earlier. It might be it, or similar. It is only the main piece. The rest was lost on a ship.
BaseballSpecialist: Yes, well the machine was mostly lost on a ship. Also, the stuff in the X-ray is space related. And the ring on the missions screen is a more detailed x-ray.
Alright, the rest of the lead is coming soon. Just finishing up some research. And by the rest, I mean of the small fraction i am currently researching.
It is really hard, since the documents are so old it is hard to find the right thing. BookTurquoise knows some things, but she is waiting to finish a competition before helping. Luckily, i am winning at the competition.

Ptolemy also wrote an influential work, Harmonics. Ptolemy wrote about how musical notes could be translated into mathematical equations and vice versa in Harmonics. This is called Pythagorean tuning because it was first discovered by Pythagoras. However, Pythagoras believed that the mathematics of music should be based on the specific ratio of 3:2 whereas Ptolemy merely believed that it should just generally involve tetrachords and octaves. If we follow Ptolemy's way ( that is the tetrachords and octaves ), we could change his equations into musical notes mentioned in Harmonics! I wish that helped.:)

If any of you have the marco polo hiest, then this is starting to make sense. on the back of all the cards there is a design which i think that you have to connect all of the cards together to solve it, like a puzzle. and it has constellation names, so i think that it is similar to a star map. Wait, why did the vespers want the divirga world map? is it possible that they are looking for a specific location that would be impossible to find on a new map? and i read a preview of the dead of the night, and it said that amy and dan would find out something about an astronomer possibly being murdered by a vesper! clever assasin 125, you're on to something big!

Okay so the Antikythera Mechanism is definitely a part of this. On the TOP SECRET part of the card you get from VESPERFILE, it has a sketch of it. It is definitely the same thing. So that is DEFINITELY a part of it.

ClassifiedAnalyzing123: You're correct, there might have been Vespers in Ptolemy's time. However, Gideon didn't create the serum until 1507, so there would have been no reason for ancient Vespers to kill ancient Cahills.

Yes, but they had ancestors. They didn't just come out of nowhere. Even though they didn't have the same name, there were older cahills and vespers. We just thought Gideon and Damien were as far back as the 'Power' goes.
