My dad; he’s a lot of different things. To people at work, he’s a man at the top of the work force and he’s extremely hardworking. To his friends, he’s got it all. He’s got character, and he’s got the money. To my mom, he’s a loving husband who takes care of his family. To my brother and sister, he’s the best dad ever who gets them anything they ask for, and takes them anywhere they want to go. But to me, all the ways he acts like for other people are fake. They’re just a mask, covering up his true identity. He’s a mind controller – and he controls my mind; he knows no mercy.
Tell me if I should continue.

Chapter 1 Part 4
I didn’t bother doing the “homework” my dad had assigned, so the next class, I wasn’t any better than I had been at the end of last week’s lesson. This time, my dad focused on speaking with the mind. We had an awkward conversation in our minds, which included a lot of disdain from my dad’s part. That lesson, I was lucky enough to go by without any more of those unpleasant slaps my dad seemed to enjoy giving out. At the end of the lesson, I asked, “Last lesson, why didn’t you just physically slap me the second time – why did you just make me relive the first?” He looked at me as if I was an utterly stupid thing that wasn’t worth a second of his attention “Why? You’re asking me why? Well, first of all, I did that so your mother wouldn’t start getting curious about your persistently red face, considering the number of times you annoy me. Secondly, I wanted to show you the power you someday may hold. Thirdly, I felt one slap wouldn’t be enough, so I wanted to magnify the effect.” I was about to ask how he magnified the effect, but he just cut me off. “No, don’t ask. I know you’re going to ask me how I magnified the effect, and, no, I didn’t find out because of my mind reading skills, but because of your highly predictable way of thinking. I magnified the effect by concentrating on the pain you received through it, which caused your brain to remember it more than it would have in normal circumstances. Now go, I’m starting to have a headache from your annoying questions.” He waved me out, and as I left, I wondered just how many things I could do with my mind reading skills.
My dad continued to train me in mind reading. He taught me how to force people to recall specific things, and relive moments, as my dad had done to me. I also learned how to magnify peoples’ senses when they’re remembering something. My dad basically taught me how to “perfect the art of mind reading”. He also mainly focused on long distance mind reading, and soon, I actually had the capability to read Connor’s mind when he was all the way in another part of Oxford. During all those lessons, I always dreaded the time when my dad’s patience would wear down and he would force me to read somebody’s mind other than his.

Chapter 1 Part 5
That time came way too soon. It was a cold, ugly day in December. All the snow had become rain and the world was covered in slush; the temperature was just above zero. It was the day before Connor was to come home for the holidays, and I was very excited to see him. I had just had a lesson a few days ago, and my next lesson wasn’t due for four days. I was sitting at the foot of my bed, looking out the window, miserably, and thinking of how much my life sucked. I was a child prodigy, and I was to never go to university, or do anything, but work on stupid mind reading. There was a knock on my door, “Go away.” I said in such a forlorn voice that I wondered just how pathetic I was. I heard the footsteps receding; “Good,” I thought, “At least some people will respect what I actually want.” I felt my dad’s presence, which was already in my mind thanks to his respect of my privacy, begin to speak. “Do not talk in such a manner,” he said into my mind, “Meet me in the study, you have a lesson.” I huffed, I hadn’t thought the day could have gotten any worse, but of course, my dad had managed to prove me wrong, like always.
I slowly dragged myself down to the first floor, to my dad’s study. I reached out my hand and weakly turned the doorknob. I walked in; my dad was already there, tapping his foot impatiently. “It took you quite a while to come down here, didn’t it? Three minutes and twenty seven seconds to be precise.” I was about to roll my eyes, but then thought better of it. “Very wise,” My dad exclaimed, “I do believe that you have actually managed to think wisely for once.” That was another thing I hated; he knew everything I thought since his presence stayed with me twenty four seven. “Now, aren’t you going to ask me why you’re here?” He asked, “Well don’t, because I’m going to tell you anyways. I have decided that you have done decently enough with the mind reading techniques we have already practiced, but that is probably because you have become used to working with my mind. To test you for real, I have decided you are going to read Connor’s mind, as this is the last day he will be so far away before he comes back for the holiday break.” This was the day I had been dreading, ever since my first mind reading lesson. “No.” I said, firmly. I prepared myself for the burning sensation that was sure to follow. “Yes, you will.” He said, “Or would you like to relive a specific moment in your life?” He looked at me, searching for any sign of fear on my face; there was none. I quickly made myself forget the fear in my mind, so my dad wouldn’t be able to detect that fear either, without having to search thoroughly through my thoughts. Even he wouldn’t do that. “Alright then.” He said, “Let’s have some fun.” His presence in my mind grew, and I felt his mind forcing me to relive that moment, but I had other plans.
As soon as he had started trying to relive that moment, I quickly entered his mind, and forced him to remember my pain; for good measures, I decided to magnify the effects. And so, we stood in front of each other, face to face, battling with our minds. Whoever could keep up their attack for longer, before succumbing to their mind’s wants to relive that moment, would win. Sweat started pouring down my forehead, it was only minutes, but it felt like hours. Suddenly, I felt my dad’s concentration falter, and I renewed the force of my attack, making it as sharp as the blade of a knife. Finally, my dad gave way, and he started reliving the moment. He grunted from the pain and collapsed onto his leather chair. I kept up my attack for a few minutes, and then walked out, leaving my dad unconscious in the study, slumped over in his chair.

I will absolutly spread the word. I really like your story. I thought that it was a good time for her to fight back! I just beginning to wonder when she would begin to rebell and then there it was masterfully done. It was a high tension moment and the reader gets satisfaction for the sake of your chracter.

Chapter 1 Part 6
I walked upstairs, shaken. I hadn’t expected it to work; from the beginning of my training, I had always assumed that I would never be able to match my dad in mind reading – let alone beat him. I hadn’t even known that mind battles really existed, it had just been a sort of theory that I had had. I finally got to my room and lay down in my bed; I was exhausted from the effort it had taken to beat my dad. And then, I decided to do something I would never have considered before; I decided to train myself in mind reading, to prepare myself for my dad’s cruelty, so I could stand my own in mind battle against him. I got up and stood near the window, looking out; I contemplated which mind reading skill I should practice first. As I was thinking, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs towards my bedroom; I tensed but didn’t turn around. The door opened and I heard the person enter, and close the door; suddenly, the lock clicked shut.
My heart started pounding loudly; I lost confidence and whirled around, it was only Sarah. “Oh, hi, Sarah, why did you lock the door?” I asked, relieved. She looked up at me, and said, “I didn’t lock the door.” I went over to the door and turned the knob; it was open. I must have been in such a state of panic that I had imagined it. “What do you want?” I asked; we hadn’t talked in a while, and I silently congratulated myself on my amazing conversation opener, I must have sounded paranoid. “Could you quiz me on the periodic table? It has to be memorized by January, and it’s hard to memorize the atomic masses for promethium, neodymium, actinium, and protactinium.” That surprised me; Sarah was usually amazing at memorizing things. I concluded that there was probably something else on her mind that was distracting her from studying, and I wondered what it could be.
“Sure, I’ll help you.” I said. I went with her over to her room and sat down in a chair near the window. “Ok,” I said, “what’s element number 61?” She didn’t even have to think about that one and right away she answered, “Promethium.” Good, I thought, she’s not that distracted. “Now,” I asked, “what’s the atomic mass of promethium?” This time, she took a while to think, and by her tone, I could tell she was just guessing. “Um, 200.75?” She guessed. I sighed, “No, 145.” I replied, “What’s the atomic mass of neodymium?” She thought a bit, and again got it wrong. The same happened when I quizzed her on the atomic masses of actinium and protactinium. “Alright,” I said, “Write out the atomic masses of each element enough times until you memorize them, and then I’ll quiz you again.” I sat in the chair, while she pulled out a pencil and a few sheets of paper, and began to write. I closed my eyes and relaxed a bit. I don’t know how it happened, but all of a sudden, I had entered my sister’s mind without realizing it. I panicked and quickly withdrew, but not in time to not have read any of her thoughts. Now I knew why she seemed so distracted.
I was horrified; I had gone into my own sister’s thoughts! I was so disgusted of myself – that I hadn’t been careful enough to stay in my own mind. I had planned to never go into anybody’s mind; it was entirely my dad’s fault. If he hadn’t forced me to practice mind reading, I wouldn’t be as good at it and I wouldn’t accidentally go into somebody’s mind. I knew why she was distracted, but I doubt she would have wanted anyone to find out – not even me. The reason she had seemed so distracted was because she had had a peculiar dream last night; she had dreamed that she was telekinetic. She had dreamed that she had used her mind to open the study door, open the only filing cabinet that was locked by making the lock fall off, and pull a file out of it. She then used her mind to make it float up to her room and lie down on her bed. Then, a dark figure in a black hooded cloak had entered her room and she had given the person the file; the person had pulled off the hood of the cloak to reveal none other than my brother Connor.

Holy moly. This is an AMAZING story! BTW, Megan has been spreading the word. She suggested this story so I read it. It really is amazing! I LUV IT! I don't think anyone else has done a story about mind-reading before. And remember, even though you may not have many comments, there are people that don't post on the message board that read stories. More people probably read your story than you think!
